Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Test House Technician

Responsible for performing physical, mechanical, and metallurgical testing of steel products to ensure compliance with applicable standards, customer specifications, and quality requirements. The role includes conducting laboratory tests, recording and reporting results, monitoring abnormalities, maintaining testing equipment, and supporting quality assurance activities in accordance with ISO 17025 and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• 
  Perform mechanical and physical testing on steel samples including tensile, bend, and other required tests as per product specifications and standards.
• 
  Record and report test results accurately for each production cast.
• 
  Monitor test results and report abnormalities related to surface defects, yield strength, tensile values, and other quality concerns to production and QC teams.
• 
  Carry out failure analysis and support corrective and preventive actions.
• 
  Store mechanical test results in SAP for generation of customer test certificates.
• 
  Ensure all testing activities comply with IMS, ISO 17025, ASME Code, and company quality procedures.
• 
  Conduct non-routine testing for mill and QC samples to support quality decisions.
• 
  Preserve failed or abnormal samples for further inspection and investigation.
• 
  Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of testing equipment and laboratory instruments.
• 
  Report breakdowns, spare requirements, and operational issues to supervisors.
• 
  Maintain compliance with company HSE policies and safe laboratory practices.
• 
  Support QC and laboratory activities as assigned by the department.

Qualification Requirements

• 
  Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Metallurgy or Bachelor's Degree in Science.
• 
  Knowledge of laboratory testing instruments and preventive maintenance practices.
• 
  Knowledge of rebar and rolled product specifications.
• 
  Computer literacy with SAP user knowledge preferred.

Experience Requirements

• 
  Minimum 2–5 years of experience in physical and mechanical testing of rolled steel products such as rebars, wire rods, and sections in integrated steel plants.
• 
  Experience in rolling mill laboratory operations is preferred.
