The Materials Inventory Technician is responsible for the receipt, storage, handling, issuance, and shipment of materials purchased by LyondellBasell. This role supports safe and efficient warehouse operations while maintaining inventory accuracy and compliance with company procedures. The position requires participation in an on-call rotation and the ability to respond to after-hours callouts, exercising independent judgment and decision-making related to inventory handling, material availability, and warehouse operations.
The Materials Inventory Technician is responsible for the following:
1. Receive and verify incoming materials and shipments.
2. Store materials in designated warehouse and inventory locations.
3. Maintain proper storage conditions and inventory organization.
4. Pick, issue, and process material returns to support maintenance and operations activities.
5. Safely package, handle, and ship materials, including vendor returns.
6. Load and unload materials using powered industrial equipment, including forklifts.
7. Screen materials for Positive Material Identification (PMI) testing, where applicable.
8. Understand and follow the Maintenance Operations Workflow Process (MOWP).
9. Maintain and update stock-out logs.
10. Perform zone store receipt sampling and inventory verification activities.
11. Support physical inventory counts, cycle counts, and inventory audits.
12. Identify inventory discrepancies and escalate issues for corrective action.
13. Support continuous improvement initiatives related to warehouse operations, inventory management, and material availability.
Safety Responsibilities
• Maintain a safe work environment and comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
• Understand and follow site emergency response and evacuation procedures.
• Obtain and maintain forklift certification.
• Safely handle, store, and transport materials, including compressed gas cylinders and chemical containers.
• Maintain good housekeeping standards throughout warehouse and storage areas.
• Attend and participate in required safety training and site safety programs.
• Participate in warehouse inspections, audits, and safety observations.
• Ensure compliance with applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements.
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Minimum of two (2) years of warehouse, inventory control, logistics, or materials management experience preferred.
• Proficient in the use of computer systems and business applications to support warehouse and inventory operations.
• Ability to perform inventory audits, cycle counts, and inventory reconciliation activities.
• Ability to understand Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), identify trends, and communicate deviations to the Materials Management Supervisor or Materials Management Administrator for corrective action.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment and work in an industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience using SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for inventory management, goods movements, material receipts, material issues, cycle counts, and reporting.
• Working knowledge of SAP Materials Management (MM), Plant Maintenance (PM), or Warehouse Management processes preferred.
• Experience analyzing inventory data and utilizing system reports to support inventory accuracy and warehouse performance.
• Forklift certification and prior experience operating powered industrial equipment.
• Experience working in a manufacturing, petrochemical, refinery, or industrial warehouse environment.
