Purpose of Role:
The Foundry Inspector ensures manufacturing processes comply with set specifications and standards through inspections and effective quality assurance systems. The role involves identifying nonconformances, supporting root cause analysis and corrective actions. By working closely with Production and Technical teams, the Inspector supports continuous improvement to reduce defects, rework, and customer complaints.

Key Responsibilities:
Safety First: Demonstrate 100% commitment to our zero harm behaviours in support of our drive towards developing a world class safety culture. Adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
Quality Assurance: Perform routine foundry sand testing at designated points in the sand plant and report results for AFS, Fines, Strength and LOI. Assist with weekly Mixer calibration. Perform routine metallurgical testing (including sample preparation) and analysis on castings and in-process samples as required. Ensure all laboratory equipment is calibrated, well-maintained, and operates in compliance with safety standards. Identify non-conforming materials and report any deviations or equipment irregularities immediately.
Problem Solving & Root Cause Analysis: Assist in preliminary investigations of sand quality issues by rechecking samples, verifying procedures, and confirming test conditions. Support investigations into casting defects from a metallurgical perspective.
Documentation: Record and document test results accurately. Completion of mechanical and heat certificates and other QA records.
Compliance: Perform testing in accordance with relevant internal procedures and industry standards.
Collaboration: Work closely with the Laboratory Technician to support daily laboratory operations. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to sand control, metal quality, and laboratory practices.
Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:
National Diploma or BTech Degree in Metallurgy Engineering, 12 to 24 months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in industrial or production laboratory.
Strong understanding of steel/alloy composition, physical metallurgy, and mechanical testing.
Ability to follow standard operating procedures accurately.
Good numerical and recording skills for test results and log sheets.
Attention to detail and methodical working approach.
Excellent computer literacy (Microsoft Office, especially Excel).
