
Fixed Term Technician – IT & Communication
The New Porgera Limited now has a vacancy for a qualified and experienced individual to join our IT & Communications Department as Fixed Term Technician – IT & Communication.
About the role
This is a fixed term position for a duration of 6 months. The Technician – IT & Communication provides hands-on IT support to maintain reliable end-user computing services. The role is primarily focused on computer repairs, bench builds, and field deployments, including installation of PCs, printers, peripherals, and video conferencing equipment. This is a practical, customer-facing role requiring strong troubleshooting skills, safe work practices, and clear communication.
In this role, you will:
Bench / Workshop
Diagnose, repair, and reimage laptops/desktops and resolve common hardware/software faults.
Prepare and deploy new and replacement equipment (PCs, laptops, monitors, docks, accessories).
Install and validate standard operating system builds and applications using SCCM / Intune where applicable.
Perform quality checks prior to deployment (drivers, updates, security tools, network connectivity).
Field Support / Installations
Install PCs and accessories at user locations (offices, departments, operational areas).
Set up and test printers, scanners, and related peripherals.
Install and support video conferencing kits (e.g., meeting room devices/cameras/mics) and basic A/V connectivity.
Provide on-site troubleshooting and basic user support, escalating where required.
Customer Service & Administration
Maintain clear communication with users and ITC team members on progress and expected timeframes.
Record work completed and updates in the IT service system (as required).
Follow ITC standards, documentation practices, and safe work procedures.
Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant NPL policies & procedures.
About You:
Desirable (Preferred)
Formal IT qualification (Certificate/Diploma/Degree) or equivalent practical experience.
Familiarity with SCCM and/or Microsoft Intune for software deployment and device management.
3-5 years’ Experience supporting business users in a remote or industrial environment.
Residential in Porgera (non-camp position)
Demonstrated experience in computer repairs and troubleshooting (hardware and Windows environment).
Proven capability as a bench technician (builds, imaging, diagnostics, rework).
Experience in field deployments (PC installs, peripherals, printers, meeting room equipment).
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and common Microsoft applications.
Strong English verbal and written communication skills.
Physically healthy and fit for work, able to lift and move IT equipment safely and work in the field as needed.
May require occasional after-hours support for urgent issues (as agreed).

Mobilization Requirement
All applicants must have an up-to-date police clearance certificate, obtained within the last 6 months
Reside in the Porgera valley
Ability to successfully pass a pre - employment medical and drug and alcohol test
Be a Local Porgeran (Cat 1 & Cat 2) candidate and be available to start immediately
The roster is 10 days on and 4 days off working 10 hours a shift.
