Job Description

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a detail-oriented and collaborative professional to join the Duck Research Laboratory in Eastport, Long Island This position plays an important part in maintaining reliable vaccine production through careful laboratory practices, equipment oversight, and collaboration with leadership and team members. The successful candidate will enjoy a hands-on laboratory environment where precision, problem-solving, and teamwork are essential to supporting animal health and advancing research.

The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Produce duck vaccines in accordance with fluctuating production needs while maintaining compliance with all applicable USDA regulations.
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, instruments, and biologics used in vaccine production.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records to ensure regulatory compliance and traceability of all vaccine production activities.
  • Support quality assurance efforts, including performing quality control procedures for duck biologics.
  • Collaborate with leadership to ensure regulatory compliance and assist with communications related to vaccine production requirements.
  • Train and guide team members involved in vaccine production and provide operational support across Duck Lab activities as needed.

Employees working in the laboratory must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in a science-related field with up to two years’ experience working in a laboratory, manufacturing, or pharmaceutical setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to perform laboratory procedures and record keeping with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to adhere to established procedures, such as quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and share information both verbally and in writing.
  • Proven ability to manage responsibilities with minimal oversight to successfully meet deadlines.
  • Proficient with basic software applications.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including but not limited to moving up to 50lbs, sitting or standing for extended periods, and wearing PPE

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successful vaccine production experience.
  • Familiar with common diseases impacting avian health.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Eastport, NY.
  • This is a full-time three-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.

The Cornell University Duck Research Laboratory is a research, service and biologics production laboratory located on Long Island at Eastport, New York. It is a national and international resource for information on duck disease control, good husbandry practices, proper nutrition, and various other aspects of duck production. The lab provides comprehensive diagnostic necropsy and testing services to identify illness and produces vaccines to assist in the prevention of common diseases affecting duck health
