Job Description

TransCore (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a Technician I, to join our South Florida team.

This position performs field servicing, maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, and installation of lighting systems and related roadway infrastructure, primarily along the I-595 corridor. The role is responsible for maintaining street lighting, structure lighting, high mast lighting, and navigational lighting systems to ensure safe and reliable operation. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, system upgrades, and documentation of maintenance activities.

Schedule

  • Night shift: 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts as needed to support operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of roadway lighting systems.
  • Maintain street lighting, structure lighting, high mast lighting, and navigational lighting equipment.
  • Document repairs, maintenance activities, and inventory usage accurately and timely.
  • Complete monthly and annual inspections of lighting assets.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, electronic, and control systems.
  • Install, upgrade, and maintain field equipment, wiring, conductors, conduit, poles, foundations, and related infrastructure.
  • Operate bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment to inspect, maintain, and repair lighting systems. Must be comfortable working at heights ranging from 40 to 80 feet.
  • Test equipment and systems to verify proper operation.
  • Prepare logs and reports documenting field conditions and maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance to maximize system reliability and performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Typically requires 0-2 years of general work experience
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. A company vehicle will be provided for business-related travel between assigned work locations.
  • Working knowledge of practical electronic theory, mathematics, VOM/DVM usage, hand tools, electronic test equipment, machine tools, schematics, and technical sketches.
  • Working knowledge of the practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in electronic and mechanical trades.
  • Basic knowledge of electronic circuitry and microprocessor-controlled equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, assembly drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and explain work performed to customers, coworkers, and other stakeholders.
  • Must be able and willing to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as business needs require.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • At least two (2) years of experience maintaining roadway lighting, electrical infrastructure, transportation systems, traffic systems, or similar field equipment preferred.
  • Experience servicing electronic and/or electromechanical systems preferred.
  • Basic computer and networking knowledge preferred.
  • Class B CDL preferred.
  • Component-level board repair experience preferred.
  • Industry-specific certifications preferred.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Technical certificate or coursework in electronics, electrical systems, networking, or a related field preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, sit, use hands to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively. The employee may occasionally be required to walk, climb, or balance.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Work is frequently performed outdoors and in active roadway environments with exposure to moving traffic, moving mechanical parts, and varying weather conditions. Must be able to safely work in active roadway environments near moving traffic and comply with all applicable safety requirements and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards.
