Responsible for performing intermediate level technical work and related activities associated with the planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of Company equipment and facilities.

What you’ll do:

This position is at the Dolan Technology Center – AEP’s testing and research & development facility – where the cutting edge of energy technology is put to the test. As a technician at the Dolan Technology Center, your responsibilities would include:

  • Executing tests as designed by engineers – some of these tests will involve high voltage up to 1 million volts. Safety is priority number 1 so standard operating procedures and safeguards are to be followed.
  • Wiring test setups and verifying proper connections.
  • Building and assembling test fixtures using basic tools.
  • Following engineering drawings and setup instructions.
  • Making accurate measurements using laboratory equipment, documenting results, and reporting issues.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Performing basic equipment checks and troubleshooting.
  • Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, climbing ladders, and traversing unimproved surfaces (e.g., gravel, fields).
  • Operating heavy vehicles and equipment including bucket trucks, forklifts, telehandlers, overhead cranes, and aerial lifts. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is NOT required. Training and certification will be provided for these vehicles.

What we’re looking for:

Technician Associate SG4

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years or related utility industry work experience.
  • Or an associate’s degree in electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Technician SG5

  • Associate Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/ Mechanical Engineering Technology or related fields plus 2 years of related utility industry work experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of related utility industry work experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License

In addition:

  • Laboratory or testing experience preferred
  • Electric transmission and/or distribution experience helpful
  • Experience with utility dielectric vehicles, especially Category A bucket trucks
  • Understanding of electrical power systems.
  • Familiarity with laboratory environments and test equipment.
  • Experience in fabricating test beds and using machine shop tools.
  • Experience in operating heavy equipment such as forklifts, cranes, and manlifts.
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Relevant electrical engineering experience.

$25.99 - $38.16

The Physical Demand Level for this job is: L – Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 to 12 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5-6 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) When it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time, but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg c ontrols; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible
