Position SummaryAs a Gas Leak Survey Technician, you are on the front lines of public safety. You will collaborate with local utility operators to inspect natural gas infrastructure, utilizing sensitive detection equipment to identify hazards before they threaten life or property. This is a highly autonomous, field-based role that requires technical aptitude and a commitment to quality.
You will work across diverse landscapes, including rugged outdoor terrain like steep embankments and uneven surfaces. As a leak survey technician, you must be prepared to work effectively outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, high humidity, freezing temperatures, and heavy rain.

Primary Responsibilities
- Detection & Evaluation: Conduct thorough leak surveys on natural gas systems using specialized detection equipment.
- Classification: Investigate and classify leaks according to strict company and contractual guidelines.
- Documentation: Accurately enter field data into handheld devices and maintain detailed records of survey activities.
- Safety Reporting: Immediately report abnormal operating conditions (AOCs) and hazardous leaks to the utility operator.
- Public Interaction: Act as a professional representative of the utility, communicating safety information and recommendations to customers.
- Asset Management: Ensure all survey equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.

Work Environment Considerations
This role involves working along busy streets, highways, and residential roads, often in high-traffic areas. Crews must follow strict safety protocols and be aware of roadside hazards. Some sites may include embankments, uneven terrain, or wet conditions. Expect outdoor challenges and changing weather conditions. This means adapting to high heat, humidity, sudden storms, and cold temperatures. PPE such as rain jackets, hard hats, sunwear/sunscreen/cooling items, shirts/pants/hoodies, and footwear will be provided to safely navigate these environmental challenges. Work shall not occur in unsafe environments, and all employees may exercise their Stop Work Obligation at any time.
QualificationsBasic
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Licensure: Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Technical Aptitude: Proficient with technology, including smartphones, tablets, and mapping/GIS software.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day across varied terrain (urban, rural, swamps, etc.) while carrying 25 lbs. of equipment.
- Environmental Resilience: Ability to work in changing outdoor environments
- Safety Compliance: Must pass a pre-employment drug screen (including marijuana) and background check; subject to DOT random testing.
- Testing: Ability to pass all Operator Qualification (OQ) testing during the training period.
Driver
Qualifications:
Because all field personnel may be required to operate company vehicles at any time, maintaining driver eligibility is mandatory. A valid driver’s license is considered an essential function of employment in field operations. Failure to obtain or maintain driver eligibility may affect employment status and/or eligibility for certain job assignments, unless given a Human Resources accommodation.
