We are actively seeking to grow our team in Japan and are looking for systems engineers and technical writers from within and outside Japan to take our platform to the next level. The technical writing team, currently composed of 4 technical writers based in India (Pune & Bengaluru) with 5 to 18 years of experience, works on all product documentation for Cloud BU products. This team operates in a dynamic environment with parallel product releases, collaborating closely with engineers, QA, and Customer Support across various geographic locations (India, USA, and Japan). Due to the global nature of our teams and work, team members operate across different time zones. Our team members bring diverse experiences from leading companies such as Veritas, Nutanix, Microsoft, and VMware.
Job Duties
We are looking for a skilled Senior Technical Writer and Translator to ensure our product documentation meets high standards and is available in Japanese. This role is crucial for making Rakuten Cloud products accessible in the Japanese language. You will be responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining a wide range of technical documentation in both English and Japanese, with a strong focus on accurate and idiomatic translation from English to Japanese.
Key Responsibilities:
English-Japanese Translation:Accurately and idiomatically translate complex technical documentation (including CLI, UI, API) from English to Japanese, ensuring linguistic and cultural appropriateness for a Japanese-speaking audience.
Technical Accuracy and Clarity:Work closely with engineers, QA, and support teams to ensure the technical accuracy, completeness, and clarity of all documentation.
Information Architecture:Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective information architecture, content strategies, and documentation standards.
Develop and Maintain Technical Documentation:Create, update, and maintain a wide range of technical documentation (CLI, UI, API).
Audience-Centric Approach:Tailor content to different technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring accessibility and ease of understanding.
Review and Editing:Conduct thorough reviews and edits of documentation for grammar, style, consistency, and adherence to brand guidelines.
Project Management:Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and ensuring high-quality deliverables.
Minimum Qualifications
5-10 years of experience in technical writing and translation from English to Japanese.
Technical degree or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience:Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in data storage, networking, cloud, or related domains.
Language Proficiency:
Native-level fluency in English with exceptional writing, editing, and grammar skills.
Native-level fluency in Japanese (reading, writing, and speaking) with proven experience in technical translation from English to Japanese.
Technical Knowledge:Demonstrated strong understanding of technology and the ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and communicate them simply and accurately.
Documentation Tools:Proficiency with common documentation tools such as restructured Text (RST), Markdown, DITA, etc.
Collaboration:Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Problem-Solving:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify documentation needs and create effective solutions.
Self-Motivated:Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
