
The Technical Writer II provides mid-level technical writing, editing, and documentation support to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Safety Service Center (SAFECEN). This role supports the development, revision, and maintenance of technical documents, safety publications, communications materials, and project lifecycle documentation in support of Coast Guard safety programs and operational initiatives.
The Technical Writer II works collaboratively with subject matter experts, program staff, and stakeholders to produce clear, accurate, and high-quality written products that align with Coast Guard standards, accessibility requirements, and established documentation processes supporting SAFECEN mission objectives.
The Technical Writer II develops, edits, and updates a variety of technical and operational documents, including safety guidance, procedural manuals, reports, communications products, and supporting documentation. Responsibilities include translating complex technical and operational information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content for diverse audiences.
The role supports drafting original documentation as well as revising and improving existing materials to enhance clarity, consistency, and usability.
The Technical Writer II reviews and edits documents for grammar, technical accuracy, formatting, readability, and accessibility. The role ensures all deliverables adhere to established Coast Guard editorial standards, formatting requirements, and quality expectations.
Responsibilities include applying consistent style, terminology, and document structure across all written products and supporting internal quality review processes prior to submission.
The Technical Writer II supports the development of SAFECEN publications and communication products, including reports, guidance documents, presentations, and internal and external communications materials. The role assists in formatting, layout, and final preparation of publication-ready documents.
The Technical Writer II helps manage document lifecycle activities, including version control, updates, and archival support.
The Technical Writer II collaborates with Coast Guard subject matter experts, analysts, and program personnel to gather technical inputs and clarify documentation requirements. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, incorporating feedback, and guiding stakeholders through documentation workflows and review cycles.
The role supports coordination efforts to ensure timely completion of deliverables and alignment with project schedules.
The Technical Writer II provides documentation support for meetings, workshops, and project activities, including preparing agendas, capturing meeting notes, and developing summaries and action items. The role supports project lifecycle documentation by maintaining organized records, tracking deliverables, and supporting documentation repositories.
The Technical Writer II ensures all documentation complies with federal standards, accessibility requirements, and Coast Guard publication and communication processes. Responsibilities include supporting adherence to documentation review, approval, and dissemination procedures while maintaining consistency with contract and task order requirements.
