Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 10 years of experience in technical writing, science communication, or journalism.
• Experience working with subject matter experts, engineers, or researchers to produce technical content.
• Experience with copy-editing and proofreading.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working in an academic, think tank, or fast-paced technology research environment. Excellent communication skills with a track record of building trust with technical stakeholders.
• Experience using digital publishing workflows and Content Management Systems (CMS). Demonstrated ability to adapt writing tone and style for different audiences and platforms.
• Familiarity with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or AGI and its socio-technical implications.
• Understanding of academic citation standards and rigorous fact-checking methodologies.
• Proven ability to translate complex scientific or technical concepts into accessible, engaging narratives.

About the job

We are seeking a Technical Writer to draft and shape content for the DeepMind Institute. In this role, you will partner directly with subject matter experts to translate complex Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) research into engaging publications, reports, and digital content. You will adhere to a house style and publication principles, ensuring all outputs meet rigorous intellectual and grammatical standards. By combining technical comprehension with exceptional writing skills, you will help communicate DMI’s insights to the world and establish our voice in the AGI landscape.

Responsibilities

• Write and edit clear, compelling content based on complex AGI socio-technical research for audiences.
• Collaborate directly with scientists, engineers, and researchers to extract key insights and translate them into accessible formats.
• Adhere to the DeepMind Institute's house style, ensuring all outputs meet rigorous intellectual, grammatical, and formatting standards.
• Support the Lead Content Editor in proofreading, fact-checking, and preparing manuscripts for the publication roadmap.
• Prepare content for upload into Content Management Systems (CMS) and coordinate with operations for final publication.
