The Technical Writer supports the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO) by developing clear, accurate written materials that translate complex legal and technical information for a wide range of audiences. The role assists with media, public affairs, and community program communications while ensuring all messaging is consistent, timely, and aligned with USAO standards.
*This position is contingent upon contract award*
Essential Functions
- Assist staff with media and public affairs activities, including drafting and editing press releases.
- Coordinate external communications and support responses to information requests from the public and news media.
- Collect, analyze, and prepare written recommendations addressing public or media comments on USAO programs or activities.
- Translate complex legal or technical information into clear, accessible language for internal and external audiences.
- Prepare written materials, documents, and educational content to support USAO outreach and stakeholder engagement.
- Support coordination of community programs and district initiatives.
- Draft, edit, and format pamphlets, handouts, and other technical documents.
- Recommend communication strategies and support management of authorized social media accounts.
- Provide insight on emerging writing, communication, and technology trends.
QualificationsMinimum
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with internet-based software for uploading and managing information.
- Understanding of media processes, timelines, and deadlines.
- Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to work effectively in varied settings.
- Bachelor’s degree required; degrees in English, journalism, communications, or related fields preferred.
