Job Description

Position Summary

The Technical Writer is responsible for the development & revision of Flight Operations manuals and other documentation ensuring appropriate identification, legibility, storage, protection, archiving and retrieval.

What You'll Do

  • Ensuring safety is the primary objective by adhering to the Canadian North safety policy and utilizing the appropriate safety reporting program in order to identify and communicate all known hazards and risks to the organization;
  • Ensuring the contents, production and amendments of all Flight Operations Manuals are maintained, updated and coordinated; which includes constructing and revising Flight Operations Manuals;
  • Produce Quick Reference Handbook's (QRH) using FrameMaker and Boeing Rebuilder software, edit and update QRH checklists using Visio;
  • Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the control of Flight Operations documents including filename and format standards; This includes interviewing Pilots to determine updates for SOP's using MS Word
  • Customize Boeing Flight Crew Operations Manuals (FCOM) using Adobe Acrobat;
  • Ensuring security and control of all specified Flight Operations documentation;
  • Creating templates for forms, letters, and other Flight Operations documents to ensure consistency;
  • Drive and manage the migration of SOP content from MS Word to Boeing FrameMaker templates;
  • Update Project Management Manuals (PMM) using Visio;
  • Manage, store, archive, and distribute documentation files in Sharepont;
  • Update engineering/maintenance drawings and procedures using Comlpy;
  • Add, update, and manage documentation-related tickets using Sysaid;
  • Contribute to team discussions on optimizing workflow processes;
  • Ensuring that accidents, incidents or hazards are reported appropriately and within a timely manner;
  • Assisting with safety investigations;
  • Providing document development support to other company departments, on an ad hoc basis as availability permit and respecting Flight Operations priorities;
  • Controlling distribution of Flight Operations manuals to required staff members;
  • Assisting Flight Operations with procedure development using standardized flowcharts;
  • Archiving inactive records in accordance with the records retention policy;
  • Guiding document owners to incorporate Quality Assurance principles into their document processes;
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • Two (2) years of Post-Secondary Education required;
  • Expert in MSWord;
  • Proficient in MS office Excel, Outlook;
  • Knowledge in Boeing Rebuilder;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign;
  • Proficient in graphic design;
  • Advanced skills Adobe Acrobat;
  • Working knowledge of Adobe FrameMaker, LiveCycle, XML & MS Visio;
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills;
  • Good understanding of file management;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Prioritize workload effectively, multitask and meet deadlines with tight timelines;
  • Demonstrate flexibility in the face of changing demands/priorities;
  • Collaborate effectively with a diverse group of co-located and remote co-workers at all levels of the organization;
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Effective listening skills;
  • Technical aptitude and willingness to keep up with changing technology and ability to assess the impact of changes on current processes;
  • Ability to communicate in Inuktut a definite asset;
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Restricted Area Identity Card in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.
