Technical Trainer 1 - Electric Power Generators

Location: San Antonio

The Technical Trainer I is responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating technical training programs focused on welding processes and for Caterpillar Support Equipment. This role ensures internal technicians and external customers gain the skills necessary to perform safe, efficient, and high-quality welding repairs and maintenance on Caterpillar Support Equipment.

The incumbent in this position is expected to model the following practices daily:

Essential Functions

  • Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
  • Develops and delivers technical training programs tailored to HOLT CAT’s technical training program needs consistent with individual company’s short and long-term business plans.
  • Develops internal employee and customer technical training opportunities using the ADDIE Process applicable to the overall and site-specific missions, including scheduling, and presenting technical training.
  • Serves as technical expert specific to this incumbent’s area of responsibility such as Welding, Trucks, Engines, Machines, Generators, Allied Equipment, etc.
  • Assesses trainees to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of training, reports on progress within defined training periods.
  • Consults with individuals throughout the organization to gain knowledge of work situations requiring training and obtain an understanding of changes in policies, procedures, and technologies that impact training.
  • Continually acquires personal training skills and learning techniques to ensure optimal retention and resources required for productive training presentation and development.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance; ensures supervisor is informed of work schedule and if inadvertent changes should occur.
  • Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrates strong technical aptitude within assigned area of responsibility which includes, but is not limited to: Welding, Diesel Engines, Powertrain, Hydraulics, A/C, and Electricity.
  • Knowledge of welding and machining concepts related to manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process improvement methodologies; Kaizen, Six Sigma.
  • Basic understanding of AC electrical system components, their application and NEC code installation(s); electric motor control systems, VFD systems, etc.
  • Ability to implement the A.D.D.I.E. Process to develop, update, and maintain state-of-the-art technical training programs to support Caterpillar and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of Diagnostic tools, DMM, Computer diagnostic software such as Cat ET or Cummins Insite and web-based software such as SiS 2.0.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to include delivering formal presentations before small and large groups.
  • Ability to work independently and within a diversified team in a fast-paced, high- volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
  • Exceptional organizational, time management, and multi-tasking, planning, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of personnel within the organization.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish working relationships with multiple departments and various levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products; Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.
  • Working knowledge of project management.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum five or more years of technical experience in Welding and Fabrication.
  • Three or more years of technical experience on Diesel Engines.
  • The following is preferred:
    • Caterpillar Instructor Accreditation Program (CIAP)
    • Basic Welding Certifications in the GMAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding process in the 1-3 G/F positions
    • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) active or the ability to acquire certification.
    • Experience instructing Diesel Engines, Electricity, Hydraulics, and Powertrain.

Physical Requirements:
  • This role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, printers, iPads, presentation equipment (Projectors/LED, TVs).
  • This position involves significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, reaching.
  • This position involves talking, hearing, seeing, and using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • Occasionally lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 45 lbs.
Work Environment:
  • This job is generally performed 50% in an office/classroom environment and 50% in a lab/outside environment.
  • Work will be conducted in maintenance environment exposed to fuels, lubricants, and coolants.
  • May work in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
  • May be exposed to noise, heat, cold, inclement weather conditions bright or inadequate lighting, body vibration, hazardous conditions, minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
