The Technical Trainer I is responsible for delivering bilingual operator safety and equipment training programs for internal and external customers. This position supports workforce development and operational excellence by providing hands-on instruction, evaluating operator competency and reinforcing safe operating practices across multiple equipment platforms.
The incumbent in this position serves as a subject matter expert in operator safety, equipment operation and compliance standards related to powered industrial trucks, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP), construction equipment and allied machinery. This role partners closely with operations, safety and leadership teams to ensure training programs align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements and company safety standards.

Essential Functions
• Model and reinforce Values Based Leadership (VBL) principles and tools in support of the organization’s mission, vision, culture and leadership expectations.
• Comply with all company safety policies, procedures and standards while actively promoting a culture of safety, accountability and operational excellence.
• Facilitate all required monthly Powered Industrial Truck Training (MEWP, Forklift, Telehandler) for new hires at the San Antonio and Irving headquarters locations.
• Develop and deliver technical and operator training programs aligned with HOLT CAT’s operational requirements and strategic business objectives.
• Design, coordinate and facilitate classroom, field and hands-on operator training utilizing the ADDIE instructional design methodology while ensuring alignment with site-specific, regulatory and enterprise-wide standards.
• Deliver operator certification and recertification training for powered industrial trucks, Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWP), construction equipment and allied equipment in accordance with company policies and applicable safety regulations.
• Conduct practical evaluations, competency assessments and operational skill validations to ensure safe operating practices, technical proficiency and compliance with established company standards.
• Evaluate trainee performance and overall training effectiveness, documenting results and providing reporting within established training cycles and compliance requirements.
• Partner with operational, safety and technical teams to identify operator training needs related to policy revisions, procedural updates, equipment utilization and emerging technologies.
• Provide professional coaching, mentorship and developmental feedback to reinforce safe work behaviors, operational consistency and continuous performance improvement.
• Continuously enhance instructional, technical and operator training expertise to improve learning effectiveness, trainee engagement and long-term knowledge retention.
• Maintain accurate and complete training records, attendance documentation, certifications, evaluations and compliance-related reporting.
• Maintain dependable attendance and communicate scheduling adjustments or operational impacts to supervisory personnel in a timely manner.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support operational and organizational objectives.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrates strong technical expertise in assigned disciplines, with an emphasis on operator training, equipment safety and hands-on instruction related to MEWP, powered industrial trucks, welding, diesel engines, powertrain, drivetrain, emissions systems, hydraulics, air conditioning and electronic diagnostics.
• Extensive hands-on experience operating, evaluating and training personnel on construction and industrial equipment, including Caterpillar and non-Caterpillar platforms.
• Comprehensive knowledge of operator safety standards, equipment operating procedures and competency-based evaluation methodologies.
• Proficiency in instructional design principles and application of the ADDIE model for the development, implementation and continuous improvement of technical and operator training programs.
• Working knowledge of diagnostic tools and systems, including digital multimeters (DMM), Cat ET, Cummins Insite, SIS 2.0 and related diagnostic platforms.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively facilitate classroom, field and hands-on training for diverse audiences and varying experience levels.
• Demonstrated ability to assess operator performance, identify skill gaps and provide effective coaching, corrective instruction and performance feedback.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy, professionalism and adherence to deadlines.
• Strong organizational, planning, time management and multitasking capabilities.
• Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to effectively collaborate across all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Working knowledge of project management principles, processes and best practices.
Requirements
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum five or more years of experience working with construction equipment required.
• Two (2) to four (4) years of technical training or instructional experience are preferred.
• Must be bilingual in English and Spanish and capable of presenting technical content, conducting training sessions and supporting learners in both languages.
• Caterpillar Instructor Accreditation Program (CIAP) preferred
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Travel:
· Ability to travel up to 50%, with the potential for up to 75% travel based on operational demands, training schedules and business needs.
· Flexibility to travel to customer locations, branch facilities, training sites and field environments as required to support training initiatives and organizational objectives.
Physical Requirements:
• This role frequently communicates with others, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, photocopiers, printers, iPads, presentation equipment (Projectors/LED, TVs).
• This position involves significant amount of time standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, reaching.
• This position involves talking, hearing, seeing, and using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• Occasionally lifts and moves materials and equipment up to 45 lbs.
Work Environment:
• This job is generally performed 50% in an office/classroom environment and 50% in a lab/outside environment.
• Work will be conducted in maintenance environment exposed to fuels, lubricants, and coolants.
• May work in cramped spaces and awkward positions.
• May be exposed to noise, heat, cold, inclement weather conditions bright or inadequate lighting, body vibration, hazardous conditions, minor burns, cuts, bites, or stings.
