This role evaluates business processes, application functionality, integrations, data flows, and architecture to determine root causes, recommend programming, configuration, process, or architectural changes, and guide stakeholders toward practical, scalable, and sustainable solutions that achieve business objectives.

Core Responsibilities

  • Research, analyze, and resolve complex system issues by evaluating application behavior, integrations, business processes, data flows, logs, specifications, database structures, and system documentation to identify root causes, assess impact and risk, evaluate downstream dependencies, and support effective issue resolution.

  • Facilitate stakeholder discussions, validate requirements and solution outcomes, and support testing and user acceptance activities to confirm solutions are complete, accurate, testable, aligned with organizational objectives, and meet business needs.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to processes, systems, architecture, analytical practices, operating standards, and best practices for requirements management, systems analysis, and solution design to reduce technical debt, streamline operations, improve customer experience, and increase organizational effectiveness.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of data structures, data flow, data mapping, and SQL programming language to support data operations, report generation and analysis of complex data requirements.
  • Advanced understanding of COBOL customizations, including their purpose and logic flow, along with advanced knowledge of architectural concepts such as API integrations, extensions, and cloud services.
  • Advanced knowledge of the systems development life cycle, design techniques, tools, applications, and data processing, processes, policies, practices, terminology, and procedures.
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis, attention to details, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and process improvement.
  • Advanced knowledge of policy administration systems (including LifePro) and their processes, distribution channel workflows and their needs, and product lifecycle and configuration, with the ability to integrate these views to solve moderately complex, cross-functional problems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work effectively in teams of technical and highly non-technical individuals.
  • 5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in systems analysis, application support, solution design, integrations, or a related discipline.
  • Experience independently leading complex analysis or solution-design work is expected.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, business analysis, business administration, or a related field.
  • Combination of education and/or relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

About Wellabe

Our company was founded by Watson Powell in 1929 as American Republic Insurance Company. From the beginning with 200 charter policies, our company was dedicated to providing personal insurance services at an affordable price.

Through sound fiscal responsibility, our young company survived the Great Depression, which came just six months later. By 1945, our company moved beyond our Iowa borders to do business in a second state, Minnesota, rapidly followed by more states. And today, Wellabe’s six insurance companies are licensed in 49 states and the District of Columbia and are recognized by AM Best as having excellent financial strength.

Mr. Powell’s vision was to create a company founded on the principal of caring. While we have seen tremendous growth over the years, that same caring attitude has carried on to today and will continue to carry on for the next 100 years.

We are in a people helping people business, and our entire team is dedicated to always being here for our customers. That’s actually where the name Wellabe comes from – the phrase “we’ll always be.” We’ll always be here for our customers, fulfilling our promises and helping them be well. Even nearly 95 years later, we are still caring for our customers, pushing boundaries, embracing growth, and transforming our organization.
