This is a full-time remote role that requires international travel.
*Annual Compensation Range is $90,000-$96,900
*Compensation range listed is for U.S. hires only. Actual compensation may vary dependent upon location of hire.
As a Technical Superintendent you will manage the preparations required to take delivery of the Africa Mercy II and bring it into operations to sail and begin her field service operations
This includes creating operational documentation, maintenance plans, parts and supplies for the ship to enter service upon delivery. Once delivered transition into the role of Technical Superintendent. Prepare and submit any necessary Warranty Claims
How You'll Contribute:
• Develop and coordinate SMS documentation, regulatory documentation and shipboard manuals.
• Oversee and support the building of the planned maintenance system and upon delivery monitor routine and corrective maintenance onboard assigned vessel
• In conjunction with Director of New Building ensure all necessary classification and Flag State requirements are in place to ensure timely Delivery then monitor such documents to ensure completion of scheduled surveys and/or attention to identified defects
• Oversee preparation of work plans for technical areas for equipping phase and initial field service, while planning for annual maintenance phases, including drydocking when required.
• Review requests for repairs and/or modifications to determine compliance with statutory regulations and classification society rules.
• As necessary, inspect machinery, equipment, or spaces outlined in work and modification requests; draw up job specifications; and obtain bids from contractors or shipyards to perform repairs. (Both Warranty and non-warranty work)
• Maintain contact with contractors to ensure completion of work according to contract terms.
• Investigate machinery casualties to determine cause; advise ships officers in methods of operation to prevent recurrence of casualty or malfunction.
• Plan supply stocks for all marine operations specialties to ensure engineers, plumbing, electrical, hotel engineer, and deck have the repair parts and consumables on hand to sustain the safe operation of the ship.
• Maintain records of technical expenses for each ship such as repairs, supplies, and personnel.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies to ensure that requirements for alterations, repairs, or modifications are kept at minimum cost consistent with safety.
• Review and advise on qualifications of technical staff and/or applicants as requested.
• Maintain proficient knowledge of Company SMS; assist QHSE Manager to ensure safe working practices are followed onboard.
• Visit the from time to time during construction and equipping (final fit out) as well as after the vessel is operational and in field service. Conduct the annual Company Vessel Inspection after Delivery
• Other duties as assigned.
Ideal Candidate:
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, contractors, suppliers, and the general public
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
• Ability to travel nationally and internationally.
• Preference is to work from Mercy Ships International Support Center in Lindale, Texas – remote work may be considered
• Certificate of Competency in accordance with STCW III/2 required; Chief Engineer preferred.

Education and Experience:
• Bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) from four-year College or University; with 10 years related industry experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Two or more years of service aboard ROPAX or Cruise vessels to provide the necessary background in sustaining a vessel with a substantial crew aboard.
• Successful completion of Mercy Ships Entry Training will be required within the first year.
