Job Description

General Area of Responsibility

The Vessel Technical Superintendent is responsible for the overall technical management of assigned vessels, ensuring compliance with company maintenance standards, planned maintenance systems (PMS), and class requirements. This includes coordinating with the vessel’s technical crew to maintain proper documentation, managing the technical budget, and maintaining ongoing communication with the vessel’s classification society.

Specific Area of Responsibility:

The main tasks will be:

  • Coordinating corrective, preventive, and predictive maintenance as described in the company PMS in coordination with vessel crew.

  • Technical management of vessels in accordance with the company QMS/SMS system (HMS Element 4)

  • Enforcement of company risk management processes for maintenance and repair activities.

  • Raising and handling vessel defects in the company PMS in accordance with class rules and company technical standards.

  • Conduct regular vessel inspections as per company QMS/SMS safety area inspection requirements.

  • Collect and submit lubricating oil samples for analysis according to SERTICA schedule and address subsequent issues with sufficient documentation.

  • Prepare and monitor the vessel technical and consumables budget in coordination with Technical Management.

  • Verify compliance with SOVIQ audits on board vessels.

  • Coordinate training to the captains and chief engineer related to the operation and maintenance of equipment on board and the use of SERTICA, when needed.

  • Support business activities and ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective processes, complying with any contractual and Company’s requirements.

  • Technical approve the RQs in Sertica.

  • Perform other ad hoc tasks as needed.

Required/Preferred Education

  • University degree in Naval Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Diesel, or related area.

Training and Experience

  • More than 3 years of experience in similar position, preferable.

  • Solid understanding of industrial mechanics, hydraulics, diesel mechanics, fuel systems, lubrication and refrigeration, desirable.

  • Proven experience in: electrical tools like multimeters, knowledge in sounding tanks, preparation of surface for painting, oil analysis, use of thermal gun and reading manometers and thermometers.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills across multiple levels in the organization and with external and internal stakeholders.

  • Fluent written and spoken Spanish. Advanced written and spoken English preferred.

  • Proficient in MS Office application.

  • Safety environment awareness.
