Position

  • The National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) is the U.S. Government agency in charge of designing, building, launching, and maintaining America’s intelligence satellites.
    Develop. Acquire. Launch. Operate.
  • Apogee is seeking a Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) who provides expert-level technical guidance, architectural insight, and recommendations supporting the NRO’s enterprise network infrastructure. The SME leverages extensive knowledge of complex network environments to assess current capabilities, identify opportunities for improvement, and support modernization initiatives that enhance mission effectiveness, reliability, and operational performance.
    The ideal candidate possesses deep technical expertise in enterprise networking, infrastructure architecture, and mission-critical environments, with the ability to collaborate with engineering teams, stakeholders, and leadership to develop and implement effective technical solutions.

What You'll Do

  • Serve as a technical authority and advisor on NRO enterprise network infrastructure, architecture, and operational capabilities. Evaluate COMM tools
  • Provide expert recommendations for improving network performance, scalability, reliability, and security
  • Analyze current network capabilities and identify opportunities for modernization, optimization, and technology improvements
  • Review and evaluate proposed network architectures, designs, technologies, and engineering solutions
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to network engineering teams
  • Support requirements development, technical assessments, and solution recommendations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network solutions align with mission requirements and operational objectives
  • Troubleshoot and provide guidance on complex network infrastructure issues
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies and recommend adoption strategies where appropriate
  • Support technical discussions with government stakeholders, engineering teams, and vendors

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience)
  • 10+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure
  • Extensive experience with complex, mission-critical network environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in network architecture, design, operations, and optimization
  • Prior NRO experience
  • Strong understanding of networking technologies, including:
    • TCP/IP
    • Routing and switching
    • Network security concepts
    • DNS/DHCP/IP Address Management (IPAM)
    • Network monitoring and management tools
  • Experience supporting Linux and Windows-based enterprise environments
  • Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop effective solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience providing technical recommendations to senior stakeholders

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience supporting NRO, IC, DoD, or other government mission environments
  • Experience as a technical lead, network architect, or senior engineering advisor
  • Experience with enterprise network modernization and transformation initiatives
  • Experience evaluating cloud networking solutions and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Industry certifications such as:
    • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)
    • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
    • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
    • Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure)

Pay

  • Target Salary Range: $150,000 to $200,000. The salary range listed represents the anticipated compensation for this position. Actual compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's experience, qualifications, skills, and other relevant factors
