Viva Energy Australia is seeking a Technical Specialist – IT Infrastructure, a senior-level role responsible for overseeing and guiding the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of IT Infrastructure platform systems across the Viva Group (Energy, Retail & Commercial). This position requires a deep technical background and strong leadership capabilities to ensure the delivery of robust, scalable, and secure infrastructure services.

The Technical Specialist will play a key role in driving platform initiatives, enhancing infrastructure performance, and ensuring seamless integration of core systems. In addition to providing high-level technical expertise, this role will influence infrastructure strategy, support complex issue resolution, and collaborate closely with internal technology teams and external partners to ensure operational excellence.

Responsibilities & Requirements

• Design and lead the delivery of robust, scalable IT platform solutions that support Viva’s energy, retail, and commercial business.
• Collaborate across teams — including Architecture, Engineering, Infrastructure, Cyber Security and Applications — to build integrated, high‑performing platform systems.
• Define technical requirements and architecture, ensuring platforms meet performance, security, and scalability standards.

System Integration & Delivery

• Oversee end‑to‑end integration of platform components, ensuring seamless interoperability.
• Plan and execute deployment strategies that minimise disruption and ensure smooth implementation.

Performance, Monitoring & Optimisation

• Implement and maintain monitoring tools to track platform reliability and performance.
• Proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, ensuring systems remain efficient and stable.

Security & Compliance

• Partner with Cyber Security to embed strong security controls across all platform systems.
• Ensure solutions meet industry standards, governance requirements, and privacy regulations.

Support, Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement

• Act as a senior escalation point for complex technical issues, providing expert troubleshooting.
• Implement proactive measures to reduce incidents and platform risk.

Innovation & Technology Leadership

• Stay across emerging technologies and industry trends, recommending improvements that enhance capability and efficiency.
• Drive adoption of innovative solutions across the platform ecosystem.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain clear, comprehensive technical documentation, architecture diagrams, and SOPs.
• Provide regular updates on platform performance, project progress, and key activities

Qualifications

• 10+ years’ experience in Windows and/or Linux Systems Administration in senior or lead roles
• Strong expertise across:
  • Windows Server 2016/2019/2022 & RHEL lifecycle management
  • VMware vSphere (HA/DRS, capacity planning)
  • Azure IaaS VM design (sizing, availability sets/zones)
  • SAN/NAS, Azure Storage, backup/DR with immutability
  • Azure landing zones, RBAC, networking, Terraform/DevOps automation
  • Identity (Entra ID/MFA), CIS baselines, vulnerability management, encryption
  • Observability tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics), incident/problem management
• Experienced with physical and virtual infrastructure environments
• Retail POS infrastructure experience (Microsoft POS ideal)
• Strong knowledge of O365, Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server, Azure and messaging platforms
• Hands‑on experience designing, deploying and supporting cloud systems (Azure preferred)
• Solid understanding of cloud computing, IaC, and containerisation
• PowerShell and SQL scripting skills
• Familiar with CI/CD, DevOps practices and modern deployment pipelines
• Strong networking, security and infrastructure best‑practice knowledge
• Excellent problem‑solving skills with the ability to resolve complex technical challenges
• Effective communicator with strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills
