Ready to combine your audit expertise with innovation and methodology? Perfect timing! We’re looking for a Technical Specialist – Audit & Assurance Technology & Standards

If you enjoy translating complex audit standards into practical tools, improving the way auditors work, and collaborating on technology-driven improvements within audit, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a real impact.

You’ll act as the operational link between our Audit & Assurance Tech & Innovation Committee and the Technical (A&A Compliance) team, ensuring that new technologies, evolving standards and audit methodology move forward together.

What will you be doing?

Forget static methodologies that gather dust. You keep our audit approach sharp, practical and future-proof.

  • Translate evolving standards into practice – Monitor new audit standards, regulatory updates and guidance from the BDO network. You analyse the impact and convert these developments into concrete updates for methodology, templates and guidance used by our audit teams.
  • Develop practitioner-friendly tools – Revise and maintain audit templates, checklists and guidance. You ensure they remain compliant, user-friendly and efficient, striking the right balance between innovation, quality and practicality.
  • Bridge innovation and compliance – Work closely with the Innovation Officer within Audit & Assurance to assess new audit tools and technologies. You provide compliance input, methodology requirements and risk assessments to ensure new solutions truly support the audit process.
  • Contribute to audit technology initiatives – Collaborate with internal teams, international member firms and external partners (such as startups or solution providers) to explore new technologies that can strengthen the audit practice.
  • Support pilots and implementations – Analyse the impact of new tools or methodology updates, help coordinate pilot projects and identify training or change management needs for our audit teams.
  • Communicate changes clearly – Produce concise guidance, change logs and practitioner updates whenever templates, processes or standards evolve.
  • Ensure consistency across technical initiatives – Work closely with other technical specialists to maintain alignment and quality across the different components of our audit methodology.

What do you bring to the table?

Your foundation

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in audit (Big Four, national firm or similar environment)
  • Strong interest in audit standards, methodology and compliance
  • Affinity with technology and experience with digital audit tools or data analytics
  • Advanced Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, Power Query / Power Pivot; basic VBA is a plus)
  • Experience with SharePoint or similar document management systems
  • Experience developing templates, guidance documents or policy updates
  • Professional qualification such as CPA, CA or CIA is a plus but not required
  • Fluency in English; Dutch or French is an asset
