As a Technical Specialist within our Packaging business, you'll play a key role in ensuring our products consistently meet customer expectations, certification standards and safety requirements. Working at the heart of Manufacturing, you will provide technical leadership, drive quality improvement, and help deliver operational excellence through data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical professional to influence product quality, process capability and customer satisfaction while leading a team of Quality Specialists and Technicians.

What you will do:

As Technical Specialist, you'll act as the technical authority for your manufacturing area, supporting operational performance and driving continuous improvement through structured problem solving and technical expertise.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical leadership and expert support to Manufacturing teams.
  • Leading investigations, root cause analysis and problem-solving activities to improve process and product performance.
  • Identifying and implementing best practice in quality management, statistical process control and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Translating technical insights and customer requirements into practical, measurable business improvements.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of the Manufacturing Q&PD Annual Operating Plan.
  • Managing and prioritising technical resources to balance operational support with strategic improvement activities.
  • Delivering quality improvement and cost reduction initiatives focused on yield, reliability and efficiency.
  • Leading customer complaint investigations and implementing robust corrective and preventive actions.
  • Driving improvements to the Works Quality Management System and ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Analysing process capability and performance data to identify variation and optimise manufacturing processes.
  • Ensuring testing and inspection systems remain compliant, capable and fit for purpose.
  • Coordinating internal quality audits and supporting external audit readiness.
  • Providing technical and quality training to Manufacturing teams.
  • Building effective cross-functional relationships across Manufacturing, Engineering, Commercial and Q&PD functions.
  • Leading and developing Quality Specialists and Technicians to ensure high levels of capability and performance.

What you will Need

We are looking for a technically strong and highly motivated individual with a passion for quality, continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

Essential

  • Degree, or equivalent qualification, in a Science-related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of structured problem-solving and analytical techniques.
  • Experience of data acquisition, analysis and interpretation.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Understanding of continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Strong process and product knowledge within a manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical reporting.
  • Proven ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience leading teams and coordinating technical activities.
  • Strong commitment to health, safety and quality.

Desirable

  • Membership of IOM3 (Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining).
  • Experience within steel, rolling, coating or packaging manufacturing processes.
  • Experience supporting customer quality requirements and certification standards such as LRQA and BRC.
  • Internal auditing experience.
