Our Water Quality Regulations team have an exciting opportunity for you to join as our new Technical Specialist at our head office in Coventry.

In this role, you will be part of a unique team that interacts with all areas of the business. One moment, you might be speaking to network control to understand a complex network issue, and the next, presenting to senior leaders on regulatory matters.


The Water Quality Regulations Team supports Severn Trent in ensuring compliance with drinking water quality regulations. This team is the primary conduit for all interactions with our quality regulator, the Drinking Water Inspectorate, which means there is a strong element of stakeholder management within the role.

As part of the team, you will be involved in compliance reporting, critically assessing investigations, and identifying areas to drive improved performance to reduce impacts on regulatory performance metrics. You will also interpret legal instruments and statutory legislation, with support, and must be able to understand complex situations and report effectively and clearly to both internal and external stakeholders.

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

  • To provide the primary company interface with the Drinking Water Inspectorate to ensure that routine communication, liaison and reporting is completed to a high quality with no regulatory criticism

  • To manage the interface with DWI in such a way that positive relationships are maintained and best possible outcomes

  • To manage the interface with the business to ensure there is clear and wider understanding of regulatory requirements and the implications to the business of not meeting these

  • Provision of accurate and timely briefings for the business on key communications from the DWI

  • Support on all aspects of the water quality regulations including historic, current and emerging issues and to minimise the impact of implementation of new regulations and guidance

Please note that the role may require participation in an out-of-hours standby rota

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’re seeking our new Technical Specialist to be qualified to degree level in a relevant scientific discipline or hold a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar field of work.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of water treatment and distribution processes and activities surrounding these.

In order to succeed in this role, it is expected that you will have:

  • Knowledge/experience of regulatory bodies within the UK.

  • Excellent stakeholder management.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills.

  • Membership of an appropriate professional body is highly desirable.

  • A full UK driving license
