Job Summary

The Technical Sourcing Specialist, PCB’s specializes in the technical supply chain for PCBs used in Vicor’s advanced electrical power converter systems. This role requires deep PCB layout, fabrication, and manufacturing knowledge alongside procurement expertise. Additionally, the role involves coordinating between internal R&D, PCB design teams, the Quality team, and our global PCB manufacturing partners.

This role is responsible for conducting highly specialized DFM reviews, technical reviews, and strategic sourcing. The ideal candidate brings advanced technical expertise in PCB fabrication and engineering, deep quality governance, and a proven track record of scouting, qualifying, and onboarding top-tier fabrication partners from around the world.

Job Description

  • In-Depth PCB Fabrication Expertise & Innovation: Leverage extensive knowledge of advanced PCB technologies and fabrication processes to optimize global sourcing strategies.
  • Comprehensive DFM Reviews & Collaboration: Collaborate directly with internal R&D, PCB Design, and Mechanical Engineering teams to conduct rigorous Design for Manufacturability (DFM) reviews. Identify layout issues early to prevent expensive engineering change orders (ECOs), costly board re-spins, and complex field failures. Partner closely with PCB suppliers to author and publish comprehensive design guidelines for the internal design team.
  • Supplier Risk Mitigation & Global Strategic Sourcing: Identify, technically vet, and qualify new domestic and specialized global PCB fabricators capable of manufacturing Vicor's advanced products. Manage the end-to-end supplier onboarding lifecycle to ensure all global partners meet rigid technical and performance standards.
  • Technical Data Management: Utilize deep expertise with technical packages—including Gerber files, ODB++, and comprehensive fabrication and assembly drawings—to verify that supplier manufacturing processes accurately mirror original electrical and safety specifications.
  • Material Buffer Stock Management: Partner with suppliers to proactively build, monitor, and scale raw material buffer stock programs, effectively insulating high-mix manufacturing lines from volatile market lead times and global supply constraints.
  • Quality Governance, Audits, & Factory Site Visits: Work closely with the Supplier Quality Engineering (SQE) group to support comprehensive quality reviews, execute regular technical on-site manufacturing audits internationally, and drive robust root-cause analyses and corrective actions.

Education / Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 5-7 years of experience specializing in PCB/PCBA manufacturing for power supplies, inverters, converters, or industrial automation.
  • Technical Standards Mastery: Deep, practical knowledge of IPC standards related to PCBs, specifically IPC-6012 and IPC-A-600/610 acceptability guidelines.
  • CAD/CAM Software Proficiency: Experience with industry-standard layout and CAM verification tools (e.g., Altium Designer, Cadence Allegro, Mentor Graphics, Valor NPI, or CAM350) to analyze and manipulate Gerber data and design files is highly advantageous.
  • Project & Supply Chain Management: Excellent communication and analytical skills to manage vendor relationships, negotiate material buffer stock levels, evaluate Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and present technical risk assessments to cross-functional leadership.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
