Anglo American Steelmaking Coal

Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world. In Australia, we operate five steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and have additional joint venture interests in steelmaking coal and manganese, as well as copper exploration projects underway in North West Queensland and Western Australia.

We are seeking a highly organised and driven Technical Services Coordinator to join our Aquila underground coal operation in Middlemount, QLD. This role is integral to supporting our industry-leading autonomous longwall systems and ensuring the seamless execution of technical and operational plans. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of mining engineers, geotechnical engineers, geologists, and surveyors to translate medium- and long-term strategies into actionable, task-based outcomes.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will coordinate projects, develop operational work instructions, and track technical performance metrics to ensure plans are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards. With regular underground exposure, you will play a hands-on role in planning and continuous improvement, while partnering with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve key business objectives.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, you will:

  • Utilise Mine Planned to develop short and medium term mine plans
  • Co-Ordinate the PTM process on site
  • Liaise with Integrated Planning team to ensure alignment of mine schedules
  • Provide updates to operational and engineering teams to enable them to meet planning cycles
  • Break down medium- and long-term plans into coordinated, task-based outcomes
  • Manage and coordinate project groups as required
  • Conduct frequent underground inspections to support work planning
  • Collect technical performance metrics from supervisors, reports, and monitoring plans
  • Assist the Superintendent in managing technical projects, ensuring delivery within scope and to required quality standards
  • Work collaboratively with mining engineers, geotechnical engineers, geologists, and surveyors to deliver best practice technical services aligned with the annual mine plan
  • Partner with cross-departmental stakeholders to ensure business goals and objectives are achieved

Qualifications

To be successful in the role, you will have the following:

  • Demonstrated experience as a Supervisor / Coordinator or Senior Mining Engineer within a Technical Services team
  • Demonstrated experience working in underground mining, preferably coal
  • Degree qualified in Engineering or related relevant field
  • Experience with AutoCAD, XPAC/MinePlanner, VentSim, Microsoft Suite
  • Ability to interpret and apply written plans and schedules with some exposure to mine planning
