Our Business
Brisbane City Council is one of Australia's largest local governments and is responsible for the technology platforms and services that support the delivery of services to more than one million residents. As Brisbane prepares for significant growth, major digital transformation initiatives and the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, technology will play an increasingly important role in shaping how our city operates and serves its community.
Our Branch
The Information Services Branch delivers and supports the technology that keeps Council connected, secure and operational. Within this environment, the Secured Networks team is responsible for maintaining and evolving the network services that underpin critical Council operations across a large and geographically distributed environment.
The Role
In this role you will lead the team responsible for delivering and supporting critical network services that enable Council's operations across a complex and geographically distributed enterprise environment. You'll oversee operational performance today while helping define the technology capabilities needed for tomorrow.
The team is entering an exciting period of growth and evolution, creating an opportunity for an experienced technology leader to modernise services, introduce new technologies and drive continuous improvement across network operations. You will work closely with architects, technical specialists, vendors and business leaders to ensure Council's network services remain secure, reliable and ready to support future organisational demands.
We're looking for someone who can move comfortably between the technical team and the executive meeting room.
You will be equally confident discussing technical challenges as you are presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders. Success in this role will come from your ability to translate complex technical issues into practical business outcomes, build well-reasoned cases for investment and change, and influence decisions through evidence, analysis and trusted advice.
With major technology initiatives, increasing digital expectations and Brisbane's continued growth, this role provides a genuine opportunity to shape how network services evolve over the coming years and contribute to the technology foundations that support Brisbane's future.
This role participates in a rostered on-call arrangement (approximately once per month) and may require reasonable after-hours support during critical incidents, disaster response activities or supporting project activity.

Brisbane City Council is a multi-award winning accessible and inclusive workplace where our people represent the diverse communities we serve, are supported, and can feel safe. Council has been awarded Employer of the Year at the National Disability Awards and has been recognised multiple times with ‘Gold Employer’ status from the Australian Workplace Equality Index for LGBTI inclusion.
Council and its employees must follow the Public Sector Ethics Act 1994 (Qld) and the Code of Conduct. This means employees are expected to act with honesty, fairness, and always prioritise the public interest over personal or private gain. The Code of Conduct requires employees to openly disclose any other work they do outside of Council — including paid or unpaid employment, operating their own business or volunteering in certain circumstances — and to manage any conflicts of interest or other risks (such as fatigue) in a way that puts the public interest first. Maintaining employment outside Council does not preclude you from being considered for roles within Council.
