Technical Scientist

Location: Olifantsfontein
Salary: R45,000 to R60,000 per month

About the Role

A well-established mining and laboratory services organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Scientist to provide scientific leadership and technical support within a high-performing laboratory environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring analytical excellence, supporting quality systems, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and providing technical expertise across laboratory operations and mineral analysis activities.

This opportunity is ideally suited to a technically strong professional with experience in mining laboratories, mineral processing, analytical sciences, or related environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide scientific and technical guidance to laboratory operations.
• Review, interpret, and validate analytical results.
• Assist with laboratory method development, optimisation, and validation.
• Investigate laboratory, analytical, and process-related issues.
• Support quality assurance and quality control programmes.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory standards, procedures, and best practices.
• Prepare technical reports, findings, and recommendations.
• Participate in operational improvement and optimisation projects.
• Support internal and external audits and accreditation requirements.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders on technical and scientific matters.
• Assist in maintaining laboratory performance, accuracy, and efficiency.

Minimum Requirements

• BSc, BTech, MSc, or equivalent qualification in:
  • Chemistry
  • Metallurgy
  • Geology
  • Mineral Sciences
  • Or a related scientific discipline
• Minimum 5 years' experience within a:
  • Mining environment
  • Commercial laboratory
  • Analytical laboratory
  • Mineral processing operation
• Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems and procedures.
• Experience interpreting complex scientific and analytical data.
• Knowledge of ISO standards and laboratory accreditation processes advantageous.
• Strong technical report-writing and communication skills.
