The Role

As a Technical Safety Engineer, you will collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Technical Leaders, and cross-functional teams to support meeting the vision of the Mechanical group with proving insight and ideas on improvements (processes, standards, best practices, and tools) concerning safety considerations that boost the team’s effectiveness and efficiency. This position reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Educate and guide engineers on identification and application of lasers
  • Maintain FDA laser compliance
  • Educate and guide engineers to design with safety considerations
  • Responsible for conducting and documenting safety reviews
  • Play an active role as a team member in the Mechanical Design Engineering team, contributing expertise, and collaborating effectively with colleagues.
  • Collaborate with other engineers, designers, and cross function team members to ensure project success, fostering effective communication and teamwork.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing and assembly teams, addressing design-related safety and laser issues and ensuring smooth production processes.
  • Support project status updates, forecasting, and issues/risks to the Project Manager or Team Leads proactively, while proposing developing plans to ensure successful projects.
  • Perform any additional reasonable tasks as required.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Must currently have or willing to work towards obtaining CMSE – Certified Machinery Safety Expert and LSO – Laser Safety Officer
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Journeyman tool maker
  • 5+ years of experience in Designing Automation Equipment.
  • Work effectively in cross functional teams.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks CAD software including FEA simulation.
  • Proficient in MS office and engineering calculation software.
  • Reliable transportation and an ability to travel; Technical Safety Engineers at Convergix should have the ability to travel within the US and Canada.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
  • Occasionally lifts or move up to 25 pounds.
