Job Description

Create your best future and join Westpac as a Technical Release Manager.

What’s the role?

The Technical Release Manager is responsible for end-to-end planning and execution of complex Infrastructure projects in a large enterprise IT environment. This role provides technical leadership and coordination to ensure on-time, high-quality deliverables aligned with business objectives. With a strong delivery focus, the Senior Technical Release Manager drives iterative processes and continuous improvement while minimising risk and disruption to business operations. A key aspect of the role is leveraging data-driven insights and metrics to identify gaps, risks, and additional tasks needed for successful release outcomes. The ideal candidate is an experienced project/release manager with outstanding organisational skills, cross-functional leadership, and analytical acumen who can coordinate diverse technical teams and stakeholders to deliver results on schedule.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Own end‑to‑end release planning with clear tasks, timelines, dependencies, and milestones.
  • Act as the single point of contact, coordinating engineering, QA, DevOps, operations, and product teams.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies to keep releases on schedule.
  • Monitor release progress and quality using metrics, reports, and CI/CD data, driving continuous improvement.
  • Lead release readiness, go/no‑go decisions, stakeholder communications, and post‑release reviews.

What do I need?

  • Over 5 years of experience in release management, technical program management, or similar roles, delivering complex IT releases in an enterprise or large-scale environment. Proven track record managing multi-team release cycles and meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Excel, BI Dashboards) and release orchestration/CI-CD tools (e.g. ServiceNow) is expected.
  • Exceptional analytical skills – adept at synthesizing data from project management systems, testing results, and performance metrics to inform decision-making.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills – able to juggle multiple releases/projects, manage detailed schedules, and adjust plans dynamically.
  • Superior communication skills (both written and verbal) for conveying complex release status, risk assessments, and technical information to diverse stakeholders (from technical team members to senior executives) in an accessible and clear manner.
  • Building trust, managing expectations, and ensuring alignment of release goals with business objectives.
  • Demonstrated capacity to quickly resolve release-related issues, make decisions under pressure, and adapt to changing project priorities.
