The Work

The Technical Project Manager is responsible for leading moderate to complex technology initiatives with a focus on data engineering and AI adoption. This role plans, coordinates, and oversees all phases of the project lifecycle, including requirements gathering, business analysis, specifications development, project planning, project monitoring, status reporting, and system implementation for data-centric business solutions.

This position involves managing cross‑functional coordination, tracking deliverables, supporting platform and data engineering initiatives, and ensuring alignment among business, engineering, and AI stakeholders. The role requires strong communication, organization, and leadership skills, as well as familiarity with cloud platforms, data pipelines, and AI/ML adoption efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end‑to‑end project management for data engineering and AI adoption initiatives, from initial planning through successful delivery and transition to operations.
  • Drive planning, coordination, and execution of technical projects, ensuring scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk objectives are met.
  • Conduct and facilitate requirements gathering sessions with business, data, and technology stakeholders; document and validate business and technical requirements.
  • Perform business analysis and translate business needs into clear functional and technical specifications for data, analytics, and AI solutions.
  • Develop comprehensive project artifacts, including project charters, detailed project plans, schedules, RAID (risks, assumptions, issues, dependencies) logs, communication plans, and status reports.
  • Coordinate and manage cross‑functional teams including data engineers, solution architects, developers, analysts, QA, and operations resources.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of data architecture, data models, and data warehousing solutions; track progress and remove impediments.
  • Manage projects involving business intelligence, big data, and analytics in complex enterprise environments, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture and standards.
  • Support initiatives involving healthcare data and related standards (e.g., FHIR, CCDA, HL7), ensuring compliance with applicable data, security, and privacy requirements.
  • Utilize working knowledge of SQL and database technologies to support project estimation, planning, and issue resolution, and to communicate effectively with technical teams.
  • Track deliverables and milestones; monitor project performance; report on progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Manage project budgets and financials, including forecasting, variance analysis, and financial status reporting.
  • Perform resource planning, capacity management, and vendor coordination to ensure appropriate staffing and timely delivery of project tasks.
  • Promote and facilitate effective communication among business, engineering, and AI/ML stakeholders; translate complex technical concepts into clear language for non‑technical and executive audiences.
  • Ensure adherence to established project management methodologies, SDLC processes, and governance frameworks.
  • Document lessons learned and support continuous improvement of project management and delivery practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience leading technical projects or programs in data, analytics, and cloud environments.
  • 10+ years of experience leading data architecture, data modeling, and data warehousing initiatives from planning through delivery.
  • 10+ years of experience managing business intelligence, big data, and analytics projects in complex enterprise environments.
  • 10+ years of experience supporting data initiatives in complex environments; experience with healthcare data and familiarity with standards such as FHIR, CCDA, and HL7 is required.
  • 10+ years of working knowledge with SQL and database technologies sufficient to support project planning, estimation, and issue resolution.
  • 10+ years of experience defining and managing project scope, objectives, milestones, timelines, and success metrics.
  • 10+ years of experience managing cross‑functional teams, vendors, and complex project timelines.
  • 10+ years of experience with project budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, and financial status reporting.
  • 10+ years of experience using project management tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, MS Project, or Smartsheet.
  • 10+ years of experience creating and maintaining project documentation, including project plans, charters, schedules, status reports, and lessons learned.
  • 10+ years of experience working with cloud platforms, data systems, or enterprise applications.
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is required and must be clearly noted on the resume. Proof of certification may be requested.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in healthcare or other regulated environments, including familiarity with compliance, security, privacy, and data governance concepts.
  • 8+ years of experience in the healthcare industry (payer, provider, public health, life sciences, or related domains).
  • 8+ years of experience applying information management principles, IT processes, SDLC, architecture, and enterprise technologies in project contexts.
  • 8+ years of experience in consulting‑style roles with strong facilitation skills (e.g., leading workshops, steering committees, and stakeholder alignment sessions).
  • 8+ years of experience demonstrating customer‑focused communication skills and ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • 8+ years of experience exhibiting a proactive, ownership‑driven leadership style with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • 3+ years of experience supporting AI, advanced analytics, or digital transformation initiatives at the program or project level.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, data pipelines, MLOps, and cloud‑based analytics ecosystems.
  • Professional certifications such as PgMP, PMI‑ACP, SAFe (e.g., SAFe Agilist), TOGAF, or cloud solution architecture certifications (Azure, AWS, GCP) are strongly preferred.
