Job Description

Microsoft Digital (MSD) builds and manages the critical products and services that Microsoft runs on. We boldly pursue big ideas that power transformational advances at Microsoft and for our customers, while helping Microsoft teams work smarter, faster, and more securely every day. Microsoft Digital employees have deep technical and business expertise, customer insights, and a clear point of view that comes from first-hand, large-scale experience with Microsoft and industry solutions. We are engineers, technology leaders and experts, digital transformation change agents, and customer advocates.

We have exciting opportunities for you to innovate, influence, transform, inspire, and grow within our organization and we encourage you to apply to learn more!

Microsoft runs Microsoft 365 for our employees, at the scale of one of the largest enterprises in the world, and our license footprint is one of the most complex anywhere, including newer surfaces like Microsoft 365 Copilot. Join our M365 licensing administration team within MSD and help keep it accurate, compliant, and cost effective. As part of the team, you will administer how M365 licenses are assigned, governed, and reported across our internal tenants, partner with Software Engineering on the automation that makes it scale, and grow deep expertise in a domain that matters every day to every Microsoft employee.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities

  • You will contribute to M365 licensing administration across Microsoft's multitenant estate: subscriptions, SKUs, add-ons (including Microsoft 365 Copilot), service plans, and tenant-level entitlements.
  • You will support group-based licensing operations: assignment groups, eligibility rules, conflict resolution between mutually exclusive plans, and reclamation flows tied to joiner / mover / leaver events.
  • You will help maintain licensing baselines and standards used by the team; identify drift and contribute to remediation.
  • You will produce and operate licensing reporting: utilization, assigned-vs-purchased, unused or stranded licenses, compliance posture, and cost signal back to FinOps and procurement partners.
  • You will partner with Software Engineering on the automation, tooling, and Graph-based integrations that make licensing administration scale across tenants; provide the administrative input and operational validation.
  • You will partner with M365 product engineering and FastTrack on new license capabilities, SKU changes, and rollout readiness; flag tenant-level impact early.
  • You will participate in operational rhythms for licensing: ticket and incident response, change management, and audit and true-up support, working with security and compliance teams when licensing intersects regulatory scope.
  • You will grow into deeper areas of M365 licensing administration over time as part of the team.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience administering Microsoft 365 (or comparable large SaaS) at scale, with meaningful exposure to licensing, entitlements, or subscription management.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 / Entra ID licensing: SKU and service-plan configuration, group-based licensing, license assignment and reclamation, license conflict resolution.
  • Working fluency with the Microsoft 365 admin center, Entra ID admin experience, and Microsoft Graph (subscribedSkus, assignedLicenses, group-based licensing endpoints) for reporting and validation.
  • Operational mindset: comfortable working to defined standards, identifying drift, contributing to remediation, and helping keep a service healthy day to day.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including with engineering and business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience contributing to licensing operations in a multitenant environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot licensing or other recently introduced M365 add-ons.
  • Familiarity with Volume Licensing, Enterprise Agreement, or Microsoft Customer Agreement constructs and how they surface in tenants.
  • Experience producing license utilization and cost reporting; partnership with FinOps, procurement, or finance.
  • Experience with Geneva, IcM, Kusto, or comparable telemetry and live site tooling.
  • Working knowledge of Purview or compliance touchpoints adjacent to licensing.
