Summary

The Technical Product Owner is responsible for coordinating and executing technically complex product initiatives by translating business needs into actionable product stories aligned with system architecture and platform capabilities. This role regularly performs backlog development, technical requirement definition, stakeholder coordination, and delivery support, requiring strong technical understanding, analytical skills, and communication abilities to effectively carry out assigned duties.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  • Lead the definition, prioritization, and ongoing management of the technical product backlog to support complex platform, API, and infrastructure initiatives aligned with business objectives.
  • Translate strategic product goals, architectural constraints, and technical requirements into clearly defined user stories, epics, and acceptance criteria to enable efficient and scalable delivery.
  • Develop and maintain Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) for technical roadmap initiatives in accordance with the approved Basys Product PRD methodology.
  • Collaborate directly with software architects and senior engineers to ensure product requirements align with established architectural patterns, system design standards, and long-term scalability goals.
  • Own pre-sprint planning activities for technical initiatives, proactively identifying dependencies, sequencing work, and coordinating across multiple delivery teams.
  • Represent the product and user perspective during backend design discussions, architecture reviews, and solutioning workshops to ensure technical decisions support intended outcomes.
  • Lead and participate in agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and architecture syncs, to ensure readiness, clarity, and alignment across teams.
  • Review and validate delivered solutions against defined acceptance criteria, performance expectations, and scalability requirements to ensure quality and completeness.
  • Ensure technical product releases and deployments are supported by appropriate documentation, training, stakeholder communication, and measurable performance indicators to promote operational readiness and adoption.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support platform modernization, re-architecture, and shared services efforts through backlog leadership activities.
  • Document technical risks and raise architectural concerns during early discovery efforts.
  • Work with Product Owners to support technical best practices and assist with stakeholder communication.
  • Coordinate with QA and DevOps teams on test coverage alignment, CI/CD processes, and deployment planning.
  • Participate in security reviews and operational readiness activities for large-scale product launches.
  • To remain innovative and efficient, the use of AI is typical and expected within this role and at Basys.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule. Up to three days per week may be worked remotely in accordance with the telecommuting policy.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Product Management, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4–7 years of experience in a product management or technical product ownership role.
  • Demonstrated success leading technically complex product initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Agile methodologies, backlog grooming, and product delivery tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence).
  • Working knowledge of APIs, databases, system architecture, and secure development practices.
  • No certifications required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
