Purpose of this position / Position summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Product Owner to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Requirement engineering, Backlog management and user experience design, SW delivery, including creating and reviewing mockups and screen flows. They will drive product vision, manage the backlog, and ensure delivery of scalable, secure, and user-centric solutions aligned with business, clinical, and regulatory needs, while leveraging Agile practices and data-driven decision-making.

This role requires strong documentation and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to create audit-ready requirement specifications, maintain traceability, and effectively consolidate feedback from diverse global stakeholders. The candidate should also bring exposure to AI-driven product capabilities, enabling identification of innovation opportunities and collaboration with cross-functional teams to enhance product outcomes, usability, and overall product excellence.

Primary duties and responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Requirement Engineering & Product Definition:

Lead end-to-end requirement engineering activities across the product lifecycle

  • Elicit, analyze, and refine business and system requirements from stakeholders
  • Translating high-level product needs into clear, structured, and testable requirements
  • Define functional and non-functional requirements (performance, scalability, security, usability)
  • Ensure requirement completeness, consistency, and traceability across all artifacts
  • Establish and maintain features → user stories → acceptance criteria traceability
  • Drive requirement reviews, validations, and signoffs with stakeholders
  • Minimize ambiguity and ensure development-ready backlog

Product Definition & Alignment

  • Understand product vision, business goals, and customer needs
  • Translate high-level business requirements into detailed technical requirements
  • Ensure alignment between product strategy and engineering execution

Backlog Ownership & Prioritization

  • Develop, maintain, and prioritize the product backlog, ensuring it reflects the product vision, stakeholder requirements and balancing technical debt, regulatory compliance.
  • Create detailed requirements with acceptance criteria that provide the development team with clear and actionable requirements. Considering functional and non functional product requirements.

UX / Product Design Responsibilities

  • Create and review UX mockups, wireframes, and screen flows to validate product concepts before development.
  • Work closely with UX/UI designers to ensure intuitive, user-centric design aligned with clinical/workflow needs.
  • Provide structured feedback on usability, accessibility, and interaction patterns.
  • Ensure alignment between functional requirements and UX design artifacts.

Collaboration with development teams:

  • Provide product insights and guidance to the development team, ensuring that the technical aspects of Vision care solutions align with the product vision and are feasible.
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clear and continuous communication.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the interface between business stakeholders and engineering teams.
  • Communicate priorities, progress, and risks effectively.
  • Manage expectations across cross-functional and global teams, resolve conflicts and drive alignment.

Agile and Scalable Development Practices:

  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, SAFe). Participate in the agile ceremonies lead or provide necessary inputs.

Regulatory and Security Compliance:

  • Ensure solutions comply with industry regulations (e.g., data privacy, healthcare, Software as a Medical Device - IEC 62304 & ISO 13485). Embed security and compliance in the design phase.
  • Contribute to Risk Management, Hazard analysis, Design traceability.

Technology & Innovation: Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends. Evaluate and introduce appropriate innovations together with technical teams that drive competitive advantage and future-proof products.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Emerging Technologies:

  • Exposure to AI/ML-driven product features
  • Ability to Identify opportunities to integrate AI capabilities into product roadmap
  • Experience in leveraging AI tools for Requirement analysis, Documentation efficiency, Product insights.

Resource and Planning: Contribute to planning activities, provide roadmap of features, define MVP in line with business stakeholders aligning resources, budgets with delivery goals.

Analytics and Decision-Making Be able to make data-driven decisions, product maintenance support and troubleshooting challenges.

Education:

  •  Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • 10–12 years of experience in software development / product engineering
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in Product Owner / Business Analyst / Technical Product Owner role
  • Hands-on experience in Agile development environments (Scrum / SAFe)

Technical Skills

  • Practical, hands-on experience is essential.
  • Experience working on at least 3–5 distinct projects in Product Owner roles.
  • Excellent documentation and Requirement Engineering skills.

Regulatory & Domain Knowledge

  • Experience in regulated or safety-critical environments
  • Strong understanding of:
    • IEC 62304
    • ISO 13485
    • ISO 14971
    • FDA / MDR regulations

Agile & Delivery

  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Agile / Scrum frameworks
  • Strong documentation and delivery skills

Technical & Product Skills

  • Ability to:
    • Write clear user stories
    • Translate complex requirements
    • Work with architecture teams

Communication & Leadership

  • Strong:
    • Stakeholder management
    • Communication skills
    • Cross-functional collaboration

Soft Skills

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to mentor and lead development and product owners.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on business needs, quality, security, and performance.
  • Ability to work effectively with stakeholders to clarify requirements, especially in the context of legacy systems where specifications may be incomplete.

Preferred Qualifications / Certifications:

  • Experience in Medical devices or digital solutions preferably in Optometry / Ophthalmology.
  • Hands-on software development background.
  • IREB Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering (CPRE) – Foundation/Advanced level (highly preferred)
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) / SAFe PO/PM (preferred)
  • Additional certifications in Business Analysis / System Engineering are an advantage
