Johnson & Johnson is recruiting a Technical Product Engineer, Medical Affairs to help shape and deliver next-generation technology solutions across EMEA. The role can be based in Madrid; Spain, Milan ; Italy is Lisbon ; Portugal. This position is hybrid and we expect our colleagues to be in an office 3 days per week.

In this role, you will work at the intersection of business, product, and technology, helping Medical Affairs teams generate insights faster, access scientific evidence more effectively, and improve operational efficiency through intelligent, scalable digital solutions.

You will play a key role in designing and implementing advanced technologies including intelligent automation, agentic AI capabilities, scientific intelligence platforms, evidence synthesis workflows, and guideline monitoring solutions that support Medical Affairs teams across EMEA.

The Technical Product Engineer combines product ownership, technical design, and hands-on engineering to deliver next-generation Medical Affairs technology solutions.

The role is expected not only to define solutions, but also to actively contribute to their implementation, configuration, integration, testing, and continuous improvement. Working closely with product managers, architects, engineers, data scientists, and business stakeholders, the Technical Product Engineer helps transform innovative concepts into production-ready capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, configure, and deploy technology solutions supporting Medical Affairs workflows.
• Design and implement agentic AI capabilities, orchestration workflows, and intelligent automation solutions.
• Develop and maintain integrations, APIs, data flows, and reusable platform components.
• Translate business requirements into user stories, technical specifications, solution designs, and working software.
• Collaborate with Architecture, Engineering, Data Science, Security, and Compliance teams to deliver scalable and compliant solutions.
• Contribute to the implementation of LLM integrations, knowledge repositories, prompt strategies, and AI-enabled workflows.
• Design and implement evaluation frameworks, guardrails, traceability mechanisms, and human-in-the-loop review processes for AI-enabled solutions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across applications, integrations, AI components, and platform services.
• Support product deployment, monitoring, continuous improvement, and user adoption activities.
• Contribute to technical documentation, architecture decisions, and engineering best practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions for Medical Affairs use cases.

Education

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.

Experience and Skills

Required

• 4–6 years of experience delivering enterprise digital products, technology solutions, software engineering projects, AI-enabled solutions, or related technology initiatives.
• Fluent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams and collaborating with business stakeholders.
• Ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Experience with software delivery, APIs, integrations, cloud platforms, or enterprise applications.
• Hands-on experience with Generative AI, LLM-based applications, AI-enabled automation, or agentic workflows.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication capabilities.
• Ability to operate effectively in cross-functional and fast-changing environments.

Preferred

• Hands-on experience building, implementing, or supporting agentic AI solutions
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, traceability, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs, integrations, and automation workflows in enterprise environments.
• Experience with AI platforms, LLM integration, enterprise search, knowledge management, content stores, or intelligent automation solutions.
• Knowledge of Python, APIs, cloud platforms, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, MLflow, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with AI engineering concepts such as agent tracing, model evaluation, orchestration frameworks, and AI quality monitoring.
• Experience in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, Medical Affairs, or other regulated industries.
• Familiarity with GDPR, GxP, MLR, quality, compliance, or audit-readiness requirements.
• Experience working with external technology partners and global cross-functional teams.

€55.400,00 - €87.860,00

The anticipated base pay range for this position in PORTUGAL is EUR 42.100 to EUR 67.505
The anticipated base pay range for this position in ITALY is EUR 48.600 to EUR 77.395
