About the role

Full-Time Position Until December 2027 (Parental Leave Cover)

A great opportunity has become available to join AGL Loy Yang.

The Scientific Technical Officer plays a vital role in the Scientific Services team, ensuring the effective operation and monitoring of water treatment and chemical plants at Loy Yang Power Station.

The Scientific Services team is critical to station asset protection, site HSE, and generation reliability, maintaining the highest standards in chemical plant operations and scientific tasks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor water treatment and chemical systems in line with established procedures
  • Manage plant chemistry performance to strict quality and compliance limits
  • Identify, investigate, and respond to system upsets and abnormalities
  • Support unit return-to-service activities, including defect identification and plant isolations
  • Calibrate and maintain online analysers
  • Chemical handling, preparation & bulk chemical deliveries
  • Confined space gas testing
  • Maintain a strong commitment to OH&S and risk management in a heavy industrial environment
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster

About you

  • Experience in plant operations or working closely with operational teams (desirable)
  • Background in power generation, water treatment, manufacturing, or mining (desirable)
  • Understanding of water treatment and power station chemistry is advantageous, with a clear willingness to develop expertise is essential
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and manage competing tasks
  • High attention to detail with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating risks
  • Commitment to quality and adherence to procedures and performance standards
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills

Work Schedule

This position follows a 1x7 roster with 10.28-hour shifts, requiring work two weekends per month (effectively a 5-days-on, 5-days-off schedule in a 36-hour week).
