About the Role

The Resilience & Operations team plays a crucial role in delivering the Council’s Emergency Planning function alongside managing the Birmingham Operations Centre. The Technical Officer position offers an opportunity to provide vital business administrative and project support, ensuring effective service delivery in a dynamic and essential public safety environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting customers and stakeholders by liaising to understand and adapt to evolving security needs, under the guidance of the Operations Supervisor.
  • Assisting in maintaining operational readiness for both Emergency Planning and the security control centre.
  • Contributing to response efforts during incidents and emergencies, which may occasionally require out-of-hours work.
  • Collaborating with multi-agency partners and various providers to uphold the Council’s security and resilience objectives.
  • Building and sharing a knowledge base to support ongoing workstreams, colleagues, and service stakeholders.
  • Managing ICT equipment monitoring systems to ensure resources such as laptops, radios, and body-worn cameras are deployment-ready.
  • Overseeing financial processes and records within Council finance systems to support departmental budgeting and accountability.
  • Maintaining accurate customer databases to ensure timely invoicing and financial reconciliation.
  • Supporting Quality Assurance documentation and assisting in maintaining service accreditations alongside the Operations Supervisor.
  • Preparing reports, briefing materials, and statistical data to support service KPIs and accreditation requirements.
  • Handling all enquiries professionally, engaging with internal and external customers and providers regarding service delivery.
  • Providing administrative support for service meetings, including preparation, invitation management, minute-taking, and action tracking.
  • Ensuring all records comply with Data Protection, Health & Safety, Training, and Risk Assessment regulations.
  • Participating in relevant training and scenario exercises to maintain skills and service preparedness.
