We are seeking a dedicated Technical Officer – Anatomy and Pathology to join our team within the Griffith Health on the Gold Coast. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to high-quality anatomy teaching while also supporting essential body donation program activities.

In this position, you will play a vital role in supporting practical teaching and laboratory operations, ensuring all activities are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with legislative and University requirements. You will work closely with academic and technical staff to support learning experiences while maintaining anatomy resources, including human specimens, with professionalism, care, and respect.

You will also contribute to body donation program support, requiring a compassionate, ethical, and confidential approach when engaging with prospective donors and their families.

As a valued member of our technical team, you will:

  • Support the day-to-day operation of anatomy and pathology teaching laboratories, including preparation, setup, and pack-down of practical classes.
  • Assist with specimen preparation, including embalming, preservation, and handling of cadaveric materials.
  • Maintain laboratory spaces, preparation areas, and equipment in a clean, safe, and functional condition.
  • Ensure all activities involving human cadaveric material are conducted with dignity, respect, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Liaise with academic staff to support teaching delivery and contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory procedures and learning resources.
  • Maintain stock levels, procure consumables, and coordinate equipment maintenance using University systems.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff and students on the appropriate handling and use of anatomy specimens and laboratory equipment.
  • Provide technical and administrative support for body donation activities, including managing enquiries and conducting initial screening conversations in a respectful, ethical, and confidential manner.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of records, documentation, and database systems.
  • Contribute to special events such as Open Day, tours, outreach activities, and workshops.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety, biohazard, and University policies and procedures at all times.

About you

You are a reliable and detail-oriented technical professional who takes pride in supporting teaching and learning in a laboratory environment. You are comfortable working with biological materials and understand the importance of safety, compliance, and ethical practice.

You will bring:

  • Relevant qualifications (Certificate or Diploma) and/or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cadaveric material and a sound knowledge of human anatomy.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Experience in laboratory operations, including preparation of teaching materials and equipment.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with academic staff, students, and colleagues.
  • Experience using IT systems, databases, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • A proactive, flexible, and team-focused approach.
  • A commitment to maintaining high standards of safety, respect, and professionalism.

What we can offer

This is a fixed term (12 month), part-time (40% FTE) position based at the Griffith University Gold Coast. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples.

Salary Range

The full-time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 4 range $76,126 - $80,321 per annum, plus 17% employer superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $89,067 - $93,976 per annum.
