Remuneration: $86,344 - $99,179 pa HEW Level 05 (plus 17% employer superannuation)

The Opportunity

We are seeking a precise and motivated Technical Officer to support the operations of a major research program investigating cellular changes in the aging nervous system. Reporting to Group Leader Professor Marcello Rosa, you will ensure a safe, compliant, and highly efficient laboratory environment while directly assisting with cutting-edge experiments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experimental Support: Set up specialised equipment and actively participate in daily experiments (including animal behavioural testing and electrophysiological recordings).
  • Lab Management: Maintain inventories, manage specimens/chemicals, oversee OHS compliance, and draft animal ethics reports.
  • Knowledge Sharing: Provide guidance and training to staff, students, and external stakeholders on standard operating procedures.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or substantial equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated high precision in data collection, note-taking, and documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of (or willingness to learn) Australian/Victorian animal research regulations.
  • Highly Regarded (Strong Advantages):
    • Histological procedures (immunohistochemistry protocols).
    • Experimental animal behavioural testing.
    • Electrophysiological recordings from slice preparations (e.g., patch-clamp).
    • Neuroimaging (MRI) of animals.
