Help us make a difference as a Technical Commercial Manager.

A quick look at the role

You will play a key role in ensuring the business has safe, compliant and commercially competitive disposal and recovery routes for hazardous waste across the UK and Europe. Working closely with technical teams, depots, customers and third-party treatment and disposal partners, you will negotiate commercial agreements, develop strategic supplier relationships and identify innovative recovery solutions that support both environmental objectives and business growth. You will also lead the commercial pricing function for hazardous waste, supporting key tenders and customer quotations while ensuring the business remains competitive in the marketplace. This is a home-based, remote role with regular national travel required, including site visits, supplier meetings and occasional overnight stays.

Your core responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain compliant, cost-effective disposal and recovery routes for hazardous waste across the UK and Europe.
  • Build and manage relationships with third-party disposal and recovery partners, negotiating commercial agreements that deliver best value.
  • Lead the commercial pricing function for the Technical team, maintaining an accurate and up-to-date pricing matrix.
  • Support key customer quotations, tenders and technical assessments by providing commercially competitive pricing and routing solutions.
  • Identify new treatment technologies, recovery opportunities and market developments to improve environmental and commercial performance.
  • Monitor depot disposal activity, analyse performance and work collaboratively with operational teams to optimise waste routing and reduce costs.
  • Develop and maintain hazardous waste export routes in line with Transfrontier Shipment Regulations (TFS) and Basel Convention requirements.
  • Produce commercial reports, KPIs and management presentations while ensuring compliance with hazardous waste legislation and company standards.

Our essential requirements

  • HNC (minimum) in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline.
  • Proven experience within the hazardous waste industry, with a strong understanding of UK disposal and recovery networks.
  • Demonstrable experience negotiating commercial contracts and supplier agreements at a senior level.
  • Excellent knowledge of hazardous waste legislation, waste classification and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to balance technical, regulatory and financial considerations.
  • Full UK driving licence with the flexibility to travel extensively across the UK, including overnight stays where required.

Desirable

  • Degree, Master's or PhD in Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • WAMITAB or equivalent waste management qualification.
  • Experience establishing and managing hazardous waste export routes under TFS regulations and the Basel Convention.
  • Knowledge of ADR transport regulations, hazardous waste permitting and UK Appropriate Measures/BAT guidance.
  • Experience supporting large-scale tenders and key account pricing within the waste management sector.
  • Strong presentation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and external partners.
