Job Description

We’re a leading Fintech small business lender fuelling growth by making finance more accessible.

We deliver fast & flexible funding designed to meet the unique needs of Australian businesses. With over $1.5 billion funded since 2018 and backing for 15,000+ small businesses, we're trusted for our speed, high quality service, and tailored approach.

We are building a culture where you can grow and make a difference for customers. We are looking for people to join us on this journey who are passionate, curious and great problem-solvers.

We are incredibly proud of our awards, including most recently our Deputy CEO, Anna Hawter, receiving the Finnies’ 2025 Outstanding FinTech Leader of the Year award. We also ranked in the top #3 on the 2024 Australian Financial Review BOSS Best Places to Work Banking,

Superannuation and Financial Services list, 2023 Best Workplace Diversity Award by FinTech Australia and the 2022 Empowering Innovation Affie Award. We also ranked #36 among the fastest-growing technology companies in Australia in the 2022 Deloitte Technology Fast 50 Australia.

As Technical Lead for the Core Lending team, you will own both the people and the delivery of one of Lumi’s most critical engineering streams. Core Lending powers credit decisioning, risk assessment, compliance, and operational efficiency across Lumi’s SME lending platform.

This is a player-coach role. You will stay hands-on with delivery while owning team performance, technical direction, and execution across Core Lending and a matrix of engineers in other teams.

The team’s current focus spans credit decisioning automation, KYC/AML compliance, open banking, and tooling improvements that reduce manual handling across Sales, Credit, and Operations.

You will report to the Head of Engineering, based in Sydney on a hybrid basis (3 days per week).

Qualifications

  • Strong management experience, with a track record of leading and developing engineers in a player-coach capacity
  • Experience managing people across a matrix structure, balancing team-level delivery accountability with broader people leadership
  • A strong engineering background in TypeScript and React, with solid full-stack fundamentals across distributed microservice systems on AWS
  • The ability to collaborate with product and engineering to translate a roadmap into a well-sequenced, clearly scoped delivery plan, and hold the team accountable to it
  • High standards for engineering craft, including code quality, testing practices, and system design
  • Clear, direct communication skills, with the ability to work across product, credit, and operations stakeholders and represent the team’s work at all levels
  • Experience in fintech or regulated industries (nice to have), with an understanding of compliance and risk considerations in software delivery
  • A genuine interest in building team culture, developing individual careers
