Join us as a Technical Infrastructure Delivery Manager – Platform Engineering at Barclays, where you'll spearhead the evolution of our digital landscape, driving innovation and excellence. You will be l eading the design and development of enterprise-scale Java applications using modern frameworks and cloud-native architectures. Drive technical decisions and mentor development teams.
To be successful as a Technical Infrastructure Delivery Manager – Platform Engineering you should have:
Technical Delivery & Governance – Strong delivery management skills: integrated planning, dependency management, RAID, change control, governance, and stakeholder reporting.
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication – Skilled in influencing decision-making through clear communication, negotiation, and presenting options/trade-offs.
Cloud Technology– Strong understanding of core cloud concepts: identity and access management, networking patterns, security controls, logging/monitoring foundations, and runtime/compute onboarding. (Examples may include AWS or GCP; role remains cloud-technology agnostic.)
Platform Technologies – Strong knowledge of common platform services used by applications, such as container platforms, API management/gateway concepts, EDGE concepts and protection (e.g., WAF), load balancing/ingress patterns, secrets/certificates basics, and observability tooling.
Infrastructure Expertise – Solid understanding of network concepts, load balancing, operating systems basics, and middleware awareness to coordinate and challenge delivery effectively.
Risk & Controls – Strong focus on embedding controls into delivery, maintaining audit-ready evidence, and aligning to policy and regulatory expectations.
Data-Driven Insights – Ability to use delivery and operational data to highlight risks, guide decisions, and drive discussions with engineering and application teams.
Technical Debt & Optimization – Ability to plan and drive remediation, upgrades, standardization, decommissioning, and estate optimisation outcomes.
Continuous Improvement – Actively recommends improvements, simplifies workflows, and increases automation to improve outcomes and meet KPI/KRI targets.
Agility & Independence – Comfortable with fast-changing priorities; able to multitask and drive outcomes with minimal supervision.
Some other highly valued skills may include:
Container platforms (e.g., Kubernetes) – awareness of onboarding, migration coordination, and operational readiness.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Experience governing or coordinating Terraform-based delivery standards (module use, approvals, traceability, and evidence capture).
CI/CD and Delivery Tooling – Familiarity with pipeline tools and governance (e.g., Harness/Jenkins/GitLab/Azure DevOps) and Jira-based delivery tracking.
Security Products – Exposure to WAF and other security controls; understanding of policy-driven delivery expectations.
Analytical & Automation Skills – Proficient in Microsoft Excel; additional capability in Python, SQL, Jira automation, and Microsoft Power Automate for reporting and workflow automation.
Observability – Familiarity with monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and production readiness practices.
Exposure to AI technologies – awareness of how AI/automation can improve delivery reporting, operational insights, or productivity.
