Purpose of Position:

To independently manage the full estimation process for complex tenders across Kraatz’s Industrial and Marine projects. This includes interpreting technical drawings, compiling accurate bills of materials, designing structured and commercially sound quotations, and submitting audit-ready proposals. This role requires applied technical and commercial insight to ensure all estimates are executable, margin-aware, and compliant with industry standards and requirements.

Qualifications/Key Requirements:

• Grade 12
• Advanced Diploma in relevant Engineering, Fabrication, or Commercial Field
• At least 5 years or more of estimation experience, including 3 years in a lead/supervisory capacity
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings

Key Accountabilities:

• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and scope documents to derive material, labour, and subcontracting costs
• Assess feasibility, fabrication complexity, and site requirements that may impact project costing
• Quantify technical requirements in alignment with internal capacity and supplier lead times
• Raise and resolve technical scope gaps or inconsistencies before costing begins
• Compile detailed and margin-aware proposals with clear breakdowns of cost, inclusions/exclusions, escalation assumptions, and commercial terms
• Ensure that submitted documents meet tender specifications, are professionally formatted, and visually accurate
• Flag legal, financial, and delivery risks based on tender documents, penalties, guarantees, or unclear clauses
• Track and record all commercial and technical assumptions for post-award traceability
• Solicit and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations based on scope, lead time, and quality
• Validate supplier pricing against previous jobs and escalate deviations for review
• Coordinate estimation input from Draughting, Project Management, and other internal stakeholders
• Verify that all required technical and commercial information is received, valid, and aligns with project scope
• Escalate missing or unclear information before pricing, ensuring scope completeness
• Collaborate with Project Managers to align quotations with execution plans, scheduling assumptions, and resource capacity
• Prepare complete commercial handovers of awarded jobs, including detailed costing breakdowns, VO risk logs, and ERP systems and/or estimation software updates
• Contribute to internal project margin reviews and clarify assumptions post-award
• Record all variation orders in coordination with Project Managers
• Ensure all cost changes are aligned with original quotation assumptions and documented for audit
• Provide real-time costing feedback for scope changes and technical deviations
• Identify and flag cost, delivery, and technical risks during quotation development
• Enforce document control as per Company standards
• Maintain estimation folders (digital and/or physical) with traceable records of assumptions, quotes, and communication
• Ensure pricing decisions remain within Delegation of Authority limits and internal margin requirements
• Improve estimation processes, templates, and supplier databases based on feedback, lessons learned, and project reviews
• Participate in internal audits and reflect findings in estimation practices.
• Support team members or junior estimators with technical insight and methodology guidance
