Job Description

Weatherford is seeking an experienced and technically credible Domain Expert to act as the subject matter authority for our digital product portfolio across Malaysia and the wider Asia Geozone. This role blends deep oil and gas domain knowledge—production optimization, artificial lift, well and reservoir surveillance, asset integrity and operations— with a practical understanding of digital technologies such as data platforms, analytics, automation, IoT/IIoT, cloud and edge solutions. You will be the trusted technical voice with customers—translating operational challenges into digital solutions, validating technical fit during the sales cycle, and supporting successful deployment and adoption. You will work closely with technical sales, product line management, engineering, and delivery teams to ensure our solutions deliver measurable value to national oil companies, international operators and independents in the region.

• Act as the recognized domain authority for the digital portfolio in Malaysia, providing expert guidance to customers, technical sales and operations teams.
• Engage directly with client technical teams to understand production, surveillance, artificial lift and asset integrity challenges, and translate them into digital solution requirements.
• Lead discovery workshops, value assessments, and proof-of-concept studies with customers, quantifying the operational and financial benefits of proposed solutions.
• Support the technical sales team throughout the sales cycle with solution design, technical validation, demonstrations, and responses to technical sections of tenders and prequalification submissions.
• Provide technical oversight during implementation and commissioning, working with delivery teams to ensure solutions are configured correctly and deliver the intended outcomes.
• Drive customer adoption post-deployment through training, workflow embedding, performance reviews and continuous improvement recommendations.
• Captured field insight, customer feedback, and competitor intelligence, and feed it back to product management and engineering to influence the product roadmap.
• Build the technical capability of local teams through coaching, knowledge transfer and the development of reference material and case studies.
• Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering, Production Engineering, Reservoir Engineering or a related technical field.
• 8+ years of oil and gas experience, with demonstrable depth in one or more domains such as production optimization, artificial lift, well and reservoir surveillance, integrated asset modelling or asset integrity.
• At least 3 years applying digital or data-driven solutions in an operational setting, such as digital oilfield implementations, real-time monitoring, or production analytics.
• Working knowledge of digital tools including cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), data management and historian systems, predictive analytics, and industrial automation.
• Proven experience engaging client technical and operations teams as a subject matter expert, including workshop facilitation and technical presentations.
• Experience working with operators in Asia and familiarity with local operating conditions and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; professional fluency in English.
• In line with our commitment to localization, Malaysian nationals are strongly preferred.
• Domestic and regional travel across Asia up to 40%, including visits to onshore and offshore client sites.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with digital twins, edge computing or AI/ML applications in oil and gas.
• Familiarity with common industry platforms (e.g. OSIsoft PI, CygNet, Ignition, AVEVA, AspenTech) and artificial lift or nodal analysis modelling tools.
• Exposure to NOC technical evaluation and prequalification processes in the region (e.g. Pertamina, PETRONAS, PTTEP, PetroVietnam).
• Track record of publishing technical papers or presenting at industry forums such as SPE or IPA.
• Consultative, customer-centric mindset with strong problem-solving ability.
• Comfortable operating in a multicultural, matrixed regional environment.
