Job Description

This is more than just a leadership role — it is a strategic mandate

You will play a key role in advancing the importance of Mine Water within WSP’s broader Africa Water agenda, helping to shape sustainable water solutions in one of the most technically demanding and environmentally significant sectors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:


— Shape and influence the water strategy at a regional and enterprise level
— Creating and responding to business opportunities that includes the identification of key clients and building and maintain relationships with these clients
— Build a platform to leverage public-sector experience in a commercially impactful environment
— Meaningfully engagement with government, regulators, and key public-sector stakeholders
— Build the revenue funnel and support growth within the Mine Water team
— Drive innovation in treatment processes, sustainability, energy efficiency, and resource recovery
— Stay current with emerging technologies, regulatory changes, and industry trends
— Provide thought leadership, advisory influence, and collaboration across disciplines
— Provide engineering guidance on water and wastewater treatment technologies (e.g., biological treatment, membrane systems, advanced oxidation, sludge and brine handling) integrating multidisciplinary teams to deliver turnkey solutions to clients
— Delivery of water engineering scope on multidisciplinary projects, ensuring quality, cost, and schedule targets are met
— Ensure all work complies with applicable local and international standards, regulations, and WSP quality management systems
— Work across all business units to deliver water services to all sectors in South Africa, Africa and globally
— Mentor and coach mid-level and senior team members in relation to all elements of their development including professional registration
— Build and maintain an appropriate network with industry, academia, government and consultants (service providers) to provide business intelligence to the group
— Contribute to the annual business strategy for the Water Group

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


— B. Eng Chemical engineering
— Masters in Water Utilization will be an advantage
— Professional Registered Engineer at Engineering Council of South Africa
— > 20 year's work experience in water engineering
— > 10 years consulting experience


KEY COMPETENCIES:


— Advanced ability to engage, influence, and build trusted relationships with clients, regulators, government bodies, and industry stakeholders
— Skilled in managing high-value client accounts and developing long-term partnerships
— Strong external networking capability across industry and the public sector
— Deep knowledge of water and wastewater treatment technologies
— Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance across multidisciplinary teams

GENERIC SKILLS:


— Demonstrated ability to handle a demanding and fast-paced consulting environment
— A well-developed understanding of the competencies of the participating disciplines within WSP’s water and environmental group and associated operational networks
— Project build-up and role-out
— Well-developed communication and networking skills
— Leadership in the engineering discipline contributing to the delivery of high-quality integrated products
— Client focus is on expanding opportunities with key clients and developing significant new business opportunities, working closely with strategic advisors in business strategy and direction
— Implements new technical service offerings, develops multi-disciplinary solutions for large and complex projects
— Strong technical report writing skills, producing professional reports in fluent English.
