WSP currently has an exciting Technical Director, Project Management career opportunity to support our Mining Project Delivery Team in South Jordan, UT. Be involved in projects with our Mining Process & Infrastructure Delivery Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.

In this role you will provide advanced project leadership, program management and guidance in delivering a portfolio of projects in accordance with WSP’s core values. You will be responsible for delivering complex EPCM (Engineering, Procurement, Construction Management) projects of significant scope, size, and complexity. The Technical Director, Project Management is accountable for overall project performance including safety, compliance, quality, financial, schedule, and client satisfaction. You will ensure that responsibilities throughout the project lifecycle (proposal phase, project startup and planning, project execution, reporting, and project closeout) are adhered to, delivered, and audited with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable corporate standards for safety, execution, profitability, and operational purpose.

Your Impact

  • Leads the multi-discipline engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) project delivery team. Directs large project teams (including internal teams and third parties) across concurrent workstreams. Ensure integrated execution strategies and governance for achieving on-time, on-budget project delivery aligned with contractual requirements and client objectives.
  • Serve as the primary project interface to the client and internal stakeholders. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. Manage escalations and complex stakeholder communication, providing transparency on project status and negotiating solutions to challenges.
  • Oversee and monitor cross-functional teams of technical professionals and subject matter experts to execute project work on mid-level and/or multiple concurrent projects, including earned value management, budgets, tracking hours and expenses, progress reporting, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, deliverables, compliance documentation, and managing the contractual obligations to deliver the project(s) as defined in the contract.
  • Develop and manage procurement strategies for long-lead and critical path packages. Oversee vendor negotiations, contract finalization, contract administration, and the full procurement process.
  • Oversee integrated project controls, progress reporting, earned value management, detailed schedule management, cost control, risk management, and change management. Analyze project metrics and earned value indicators, implementing corrective action plans for schedule deviations or cost variances.
  • Own the commercial performance of the project. Establish and manage budgets and forecasting, set margin goals and contingency, and proactively execute change management to preserve financial targets. Monitor project billing, claim mitigation, and ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Champion a strong safety culture and quality focus across all project activities. Lead by example in safety and quality outcomes.
  • Lead comprehensive project planning efforts including Risk (REF/RMP), Project Management Plan (PMP), Project Quality Plan (QP), Project Safety (PSP), and Communications Plan, as necessary. Conduct effective project kickoff and stage-gate reviews. Oversee formal project close-out activities, lessons learned workshops, and documentation to improve project delivery processes.
  • Lead the development of project proposals, cost estimates, scope, schedules, and resource plans.
  • Coach and mentor project managers, discipline leads, and team members to support their professional development and project performance. Foster a high-performing team culture, set clear expectations, and champion knowledge sharing and best practices.
  • Perform margin analyses, establishing margin goals and risk contingencies.
  • Monitor accounts receivable (AR) and unbilled revenue, working to address issues as needed.
  • Remain current in the latest Project Management techniques and practices (PMAP).
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
  • Essential project management certification required (e.g., PMP, CAP-M).
  • 15+ years of relevant post education experience in a project management role within our industry.
  • Proficient understanding of project delivery process and EPCM execution strategies within the A/E/C industry and strong background and experience in project management.
  • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to lead, inspire, and direct large diverse teams and subcontractors. Excellent communication and negotiation skills to interact with client, stakeholders, and all organizational levels.
  • Highly skilled in stakeholder communication, facilitation, and negotiation. Able to concisely convey complex project information to diverse audiences. Highly proficient interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively, persuasively, and tactfully with leadership, subcontractors, and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong commercial awareness with negotiating contractual terms and conditions, managing budgets, forecasting, and margin performance. Able to analyze financial reports, forecasting, and drive profitable project delivery.
  • Highly proficient with critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of project management principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes.
  • Strong self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, relevant software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools. Capable of preparing complex reports and technical documentation.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing project deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace health, safety, and environmental compliance. Ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Professional Engineering license. (PE / P. Eng)
  • Experience successfully delivering EPCM projects in sectors such as mining, industrial, energy, water, or manufacturing.

Compensation:
Expected Salary (Colorado only): $139,800 - $212,600

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position within the state of Colorado, based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant’s sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
