AECOM’s Melbourne Highways team is delivering some of Victoria’s most important transport infrastructure projects, helping shape the future of how people and communities connect across the state and beyond.

As a senior leader within our ANZ Transport business, you will combine hands-on technical authority with project and client leadership to drive the continued success of our Highways team. You will work alongside industry-leading professionals, contribute to major pursuits, mentor future leaders and influence the direction of transport infrastructure across Victoria and Australia.

How you'll make a difference

  • Act as a hands-on technical authority across roads and highways design—leading technical decision-making and setting a high standard for design quality.
  • Support delivery of complex highways and transport infrastructure projects across Victoria and ANZ.
  • Perform robust design reviews and apply value engineering/design optimisation to improve safety, efficiency, constructability and cost outcomes for our clients.
  • Provide technical leadership and strategic direction across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key clients including the Victorian Department of Transport and Planning, Major Road Projects Victoria, local government and private sector clients, with a strong focus on client relationship management and trusted-advisor support.
  • Identify and lead business development opportunities, strategic pursuits and work winning activities—bringing technical credibility to client conversations and proposals.
  • Mentor, develop and inspire junior and mid-level engineers, building capability and a high-performing team culture.
  • Drive innovation and best practice—bringing new ideas that improve how we design and deliver across a varied portfolio of projects throughout Victoria.
  • Represent AECOM in the market through industry engagement, client relationships and thought leadership.

Qualifications

The qualities that help you thrive

The following qualifications and experience are highly desired, but if you don't tick every box, we still encourage you to apply.

  • Extensive experience delivering roads, highways and transport infrastructure projects, with consultancy and/or contractor experience.
  • Strong technical expertise in roads and highways design, with the confidence to review, challenge and improve designs.
  • Demonstrated capability applying value engineering/design optimisation to deliver better commercial and technical outcomes.
  • Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams and contributing to complex infrastructure project delivery.
  • Strong relationships and experience working with Victorian transport clients is highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated success in client relationship management, business development and work winning.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing project performance and contributing to business growth.
  • Recognised technical expertise within the highways and transport sector.
  • Chartered status and/or RPEV highly regarded.
  • A passion for mentoring and developing high-performing teams.
