Job Description

Gensler’s Critical Facilities practice is looking for a talented technical designer to join our team. We are looking for a candidate with experience in the design and delivery of high-tech, new development architecture projects—whether for data centers, high density labs, advanced manufacturing, or other complex critical facilities You will be a key team member to help expand our capabilities in support of our clients' expansion initiatives.  The ideal candidate will be adept in the design and technical elements of project delivery. 

Your Role

As a Gensler Technical Designer, you will collaborate with a tram of architects and designers to develop innovative design solutions as well as coordinate the design through the construction documentation phase of a project. You will be successful because you already know how to translate an architect's sketches and documents into realized 2D/3D models and images, and can research artistic and/or technical issues when they arise.  You will leverage your technical acumen and Revit skills to drive client projects from concept through build in a collaborative team.

What You Will Do

  • Participate in all project phases, including conceptual design, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and implementation.
  • Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary internal teams, ensuring design intent and project objectives are carried out through all phases.
  • Coordinate regularly with project team, clients, consultants, contractors, fabricators, regulatory agencies, and vendors to meet project goals and ensure alignment.
  • Documentation coordination with consultants (structural, MEP, lighting, AV, acoustical, accessibility, building envelope, life safety, etc.)
  • Resolve complex technical and design issues to produce thorough, constructible, and innovative solutions.
  • Direct production of drawings, specifications and construction administration tasks
  • Ensure delivery of documentation that reflects design intent and top‑tier technical quality.
  • Process submittals/substitution requests during construction and address RFIs
  • Interface with building and permitting officials during the permitting and construction phases of the project
  • Actively participate and contribute to the financial performance of project
  • Review and contribute to proposals and contracts with the Design Manager
  • Contribute to office initiatives, knowledge‑sharing, and learning programs to support team development and studio culture

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree.
  • 5+ years of related project experience
  • Experience in Critical Facilities projects (i.e. data centers, command and control centers, high-performance computing, etc.) or similarly complex projects that may include science laboratories/ national laboratories, high-tech manufacturing light- industrial/ manufacturing, healthcare, aviation & transportation, etc.) is preferred.
  • Proficient in design modeling/visualization tools including but not limited to Revit, Rhino, Enscape; having experience with Excel and computational tools like grasshopper/dynamo is also a plus.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key partners.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge in sustainable design principles required.
  • LEED, WELL, Fitwel, Greenmark or other rating systems accreditation preferable.
  • Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative and integrated approach towards achieving high sustainability project goals.
