Technical Designer

About This Opportunity

We are seeking a Technical Designer to create and maintain design assets that support product applications across various design file formats. This role combines technical drawing expertise and attention to detail to ensure all deliverables meet established standards for accuracy, consistency, and functionality.

General Purpose

The Technical Designer is responsible for creating, updating, and maintaining application design assets across multiple design platforms. This role applies established standards, planning guidelines, and product knowledge to ensure the delivery of accurate and scalable design solutions.

Essential Functions

  • Create and maintain design deliverables using AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and other applicable platforms.
  • Produce accurate drawings, plans, models, and technical documentation that align with organizational standards.
  • Develop and maintain digital assets that support planning ideas and customer-facing resources.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of product libraries, templates, and reusable design assets.
  • Participate in quality reviews and implement feedback to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain MillerKnoll product and planning guidelines with the willingness to grow.
  • Collaborate with design and product teams to ensure technical assets accurately represent intended applications.
  • Follow established drawing standards, modeling standards, documentation procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Perform self-review and quality checks prior to project delivery.
  • Maintain high levels of accuracy and attention to detail across all work products.
  • Partner with Technical Design Leads, Design Managers, Application Designers to support project objectives.
  • Communicate project status, challenges, and technical considerations effectively.
  • Participate in team discussions, peer reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Share knowledge and best practices across the team.
  • Maintain and expand proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and CET Designer.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design, Architectural Design, Architecture, Facility Design, Industrial Design, or a related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of experience in technical design, commercial interiors, furniture applications, architecture, or related field.
  • Experience within the contract furniture industry preferred.
  • Experience creating technical drawings and design documentation preferred.
  • Experience with furniture planning, specifications, or workplace applications preferred.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp. Revit family creation experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CET Designer, Adobe Creative Suite, and CAP 2020 are preferred.
  • Visualization and rendering experience preferred.
  • Understanding of commercial floor plans, furniture plans, elevations, and design documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and other business productivity tools.
