The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Technical Design Associate to join a growing team.

The successful candidate will bridge the gap between creative design concepts and successful project delivery by producing accurate technical drawings, coordinating design information and ensuring that all designs are practical, compliant and buildable.

Working closely with interior designers, project managers, estimators, suppliers, consultants and subcontractors, you will play a key role throughout the design development and construction phases of workplace fit-out projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed technical drawing packages using AutoCAD.
  • Develop construction details, including joinery drawings, reflected ceiling plans, partition layouts, flooring plans and furniture layouts.
  • Translate concept designs into accurate technical documentation suitable for construction.
  • Ensure all drawings comply with current Building Regulations, British Standards, CDM Regulations and relevant workplace legislation.
  • Coordinate technical information with mechanical and electrical consultants, structural engineers and specialist suppliers.
  • Review and verify existing building information where required.
  • Identify and resolve technical design issues throughout project delivery.
  • Review supplier and subcontractor drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Support value-engineering exercises while maintaining design quality and project intent.
  • Prepare and provide the required information to support landlord technical approval.
  • Assist project managers during construction by responding to technical queries and producing drawing revisions.
  • Maintain drawing registers, revision control and accurate project documentation.
  • Support the wider project team in delivering coordinated, commercially successful projects.

Success in this role will be measured against:

  • Accurate and complete drawing packages that minimise site queries.
  • Timely delivery of all required design information.
  • Effective coordination between consultants, contractors, suppliers and internal teams.
  • Fully coordinated schemes with no loss or duplication of information.
  • Compliance with all relevant regulations, standards and project requirements.
  • Contribution towards achieving project gross profit targets.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Excellent technical drawing and construction-detailing skills.
  • Strong understanding of workplace interior fit-out methods.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations and construction standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural and mechanical and electrical drawings and mark-ups.
  • Strong organisational and document-management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • A practical, solutions-focused approach to technical design challenges.

Desirable

  • Previous experience within commercial interiors, workplace design or office fit-out.
  • Experience producing joinery, partition, ceiling, flooring and furniture-detailing packages.
  • Knowledge of landlord technical approval processes.
  • Experience coordinating with consultants, contractors and specialist subcontractors.
  • Understanding of value engineering and project commercial considerations.
