Salary: £105,000 per annum, plus company benefits
Location: United Kingdom
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Shifts: 37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Work Model: Fully Remote

Purpose of Role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Delivery Director to lead the delivery, evolution and ongoing performance of a complex, cloud-hosted government platform supporting a critical public service.

This is a leadership role for someone who combines strong technical delivery expertise with exceptional client relationship and commercial management skills. You will lead a multidisciplinary team of engineers, DevOps specialists and scrum leaders whilst acting as the senior Williams Lea representative for a strategic government client.

You will be accountable for platform delivery, service performance, contract governance, financial performance and future growth opportunities, ensuring Williams Lea continues to deliver an outstanding service whilst driving innovation and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Technical Delivery Leadership

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team of engineers, DevOps professionals, scrum masters and service delivery specialists.
  • Own the platform delivery roadmap, ensuring successful execution of maintenance, enhancement and innovation initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership and challenge to architects and engineering teams, ensuring robust delivery decisions are made.
  • Drive continuous improvement across platform performance, stability, reliability and maintainability.
  • Oversee release management, service transition activities and operational readiness.
  • Champion Agile delivery practices and foster a high-performance engineering culture.

Client & Contract Management

  • Act as the senior point of accountability for all services delivered under the government contract.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and executive sponsors.
  • Lead governance meetings, performance reviews and strategic planning discussions.
  • Ensure contractual KPIs are achieved and delivery risks are effectively managed.
  • Oversee supplier, subcontractor and stakeholder management activities.

Commercial & Strategic Leadership

  • Own account performance, including forecasting, budgeting and financial management.
  • Identify opportunities to grow contract value and expand services.
  • Support contract renewals, bids and business development opportunities.
  • Provide strategic guidance to clients on future technology and platform direction.

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Proven experience leading engineering, software delivery or platform teams within a managed service or technology environment.
  • Experience owning the delivery and ongoing operation of a live technology platform with SLA and service performance obligations.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
  • Technical credibility to engage confidently with architects, engineers and technical stakeholders.
  • Experience managing complex client relationships, governance structures and service delivery frameworks.
  • Strong commercial awareness, including financial management, budgeting and contract performance.
  • Experience working within Agile and DevOps delivery environments.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting UK Government or public sector technology contracts.
  • Knowledge of G-Cloud, Crown Commercial Services or regulated procurement frameworks.
  • ITIL certification or equivalent service management experience.
  • Experience of security and compliance frameworks including Cyber Essentials Plus, ISMS and vulnerability management.
  • Agile certifications such as Scrum, SAFe or similar.
